Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dana Felt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dana, thanks for taking the time to share your lessons with our community today. So, let’s jump right in – one of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. Where does your self-discipline come from?
Having had seven heart surgeries, I’ve learned over the years that life is truly all about balance. (This goes for personal AND business) We will all continually be thrown curveballs and nine times out of 10 your journey will not go exactly as planned, but it’s all about how you are prepared.
As my mother always said, “hope for the best, but be prepared for the worst”.
In turn, I have learned that there are times in my life that will require sacrifice and times that I am able to be more lenient with myself. BALANCE
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
The million dollar question! What do I “do”? I am the CEO and owner of Ramble James. RJ is a custom denim jacket clothing line catering to free spirits, wild souls, and rock ‘n’ roll outlaws. These one-of-a-kind pieces are typically purchased for concerts, festivals, weddings, and even center stage! I am also a model, I have been modeling since I was 15 years old and currently signed with three agencies in the United States.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Tenacity. You have to have real grit to open your own business – you’re going to hear “no” or “are you sure” or “maybe now isn’t the time” every other day, until your company takes off! Be prepared.
Adaptability. Being able to easily adjust as needed is absolutely essential when creating a start up business. You have to be able to take direction from others and have the ability to pivot when needed.
Creativity. Being able to constantly reinvent yourself and your business is essential. You cannot always stay the same, therefore, being able to grow with your customers is absolutely another essential skill!
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My mom, Debbie. She has been the most important part of my life and journey. To know her is to love her, and I could not be more thankful and feel more blessed to be able to call her my mother.
