Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dana Williams. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dana , thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
In my journey to discovering my purpose I wanted to follow my strengths, desires and passions. I always wanted to become a beacon of light to a mass amount of people, but wanted to still stay true and authentic to who I am. Being able to work in the capacity of a creative everyday in my line of work, helps to contribute to my creative juices. I work as a television producer so I develop television concepts from start to finish. I also help to build a story, add layers and more elements to a segment, episode or show. I found my creativity through self-awareness, journaling and envisioning where I wanted to go specifically in my career and my personal life. But to have vision and an overactive imagination has fostered my creative quality.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I have worked in the television industry for almost a decade on a variety of shows and a multitude of networks. There’s something so exciting about producing content and casting great talent. I’ve been blessed to make some people’s dreams come true, a few of my own dreams, help people with their relationships, capture Emmy award winning moments and now I am embarking on a journey of having my own television production company titled, Elevated Boss Productions, a boutique production company that caters to project/television development, tv production and casting for your favorite television shows. I want to create a new generation of television production, by the way, of my own expertise and experiences. I really want to continue my journey not only as just a creative but also as a storyteller, with the shows I want to produce. I have worked on shows like Judge Mathis, Couples Court, Don’t Forget the Lyrics, Judge Steve Harvey, ABCs The Chase and even gospel and music award shows. I was able to take a little bit of something from each show and now it’s time to apply It to my own production company and serve as a better asset to this industry.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The top most important qualities I’ve obtained in my journey are the three P’s: perseverance, persistence and patience. In this industry you will get told NO (a lot), No you’re not right for this, No, you need to wait your turn, No, just not right now. But you will also be told a lot of yeses, because for every ‘No or not right now’ you’ve heard, your yeses came tenfold. Therefore, the No’s were worth having the perseverance to keep going even when you wanted to stop, the persistence to shut down the ‘nay-sayers’ and the patiences to reap the benefits of your labor.
My advice for anyone on a journey to discover their dreams of fulfilling their passions will be to develop resilience.. .It’s the most intangible, but vital characteristic to have when doing something different or stepping out on faith. People won’t always understand you, they may even judge you or pray for your downfall, but resilience will allow you to have tough skin and to power through. Imagine if It was easy then everyone would begin doing It, but it’s not. It’s your own unique journey.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
My own published-titled book, I Dare You to Love Yourself More: A Guide to Self-Love and Positive Affirmations. I wanted to be a woman that practices what I preach to others and to be a spiritual woman still fulfilling her purpose through God and my ancestors. Some of my most valuable nuggets are my affirmations, that serve as daily reminders and positive reinforcements for me to pour unconditional love into myself and my village around me.
