Meet Dane Fenner

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dane Fenner. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dane below.

Hi Dane, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?

I’ve learned to be effective and successful by speaking up, speaking clearly & not being afraid to share my ideas regardless of who is in the room. I never counted myself out just because I didn’t look like everyone else. The lack of representation gave me the fuel to advance in my career while paving the way for others who look like me.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m a cyber security manager, specializing in vulnerability management, who also learned that building generational wealth outside of my 9-5 was pivotal to my overall success.

Building generational wealth became even more prevalent after the birth of my first child. I wanted to build a brand that not only reflected me but my entire legacy. And that’s how Fenner Legacy Holdings was born.

Additionally, continuous education is what I learned from real estate investment and I also had to tie that mindset into my career — ensuring that I uphold the highest level of professionalism in all that I do. I also want to invest in a way which I feel I could positively give back. So my brand focuses on financial education and providing well-managed properties.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, I’d have to say that the three key factors that were most impactful in my journey are:

1. The eagerness to learn no matter what stage of life I’m in.
2. My understanding of living life without fear is crucial to uncommon success.
3. That anything worth having requires maintenance.

As for advice, I’d tell folks to immerse themselves into whatever it is that they want to learn or become. Reading, networking, and doing is the best piece of advice I can give, as simple as that seems.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?

To answer this question, I’d have to say that The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy has played an important role. The book taught me to build daily habits that compound over time—that by doing so, everyday I will become 1% better than the day before.
