We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dani Felt a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dani, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I found my purpose by focusing on the things I love. I started singing music, a passion I’ve had since I was one years old. Later, I created a compilation album to raise money for The Linda Creed Breast Cancer Foundation. After interning in London, I discovered my love for media. This led me to launch a music blog featuring over 300 interviews, which eventually inspired me to co-write a book based on those conversations.
I then started consulting and hosting showcases in NYC. Later, I moved to Nashville and launched my second music company, Dani Felt Consultants, which later became Music Industry Mastery. Over time, I expanded my consulting work, helping artists with branding alongside my consultant, Evan. I also began teaching artists about mindset, personal power, and self-confidence.
A few months ago, I moved from Nashville to LA and started receiving opportunities to speak to students. I feel like I continue to discover my purpose every year, finding new passions along the way. Now, I even want to create films and TV shows and become a producer to inspire people through storytelling.
I believe I’ve found my purpose by experimenting—trying different things to see what I enjoy and what I don’t. That’s how we learn, and that’s how we grow.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is Dani Felt. I am an artist at heart with a deep passion for helping other artists navigate their careers. With this passion, I built a team of specialists covering everything from social media advertising and lyric videos to branding and more. I also help artists with PR. As an artist myself, I wanted to create a company that provides guidance to other artists—something I wish I had more of when I was younger.
At the end of the day, artists need a roadmap and a plan. This is exactly what Music Industry Mastery provides.
My newest offering, which I will be launching soon, will help artists monetize their fanbase by building memberships and offers. This will allow them to generate income while being supported by the fans who truly want to see them grow.
I’m excited to launch this soon!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Being able to communicate both in person and online is essential. Strong communication skills are crucial for building relationships, which are key in the music and entertainment industry.
Having sales skills is also important for anyone looking to run their own business, become an entrepreneur, or even pursue a career as an artist. Being able to effectively sell what you do is essential to success.
Problem-solving and thinking quickly on your feet are equally important. You need to be able to handle challenges that arise with customers, teammates, or projects.
To improve communication, take online courses, attend in-person events, and practice speaking with people.
For sales, I recommend reading books and taking online courses or classes.
To develop problem-solving skills, start something new and learn through experience. When things go wrong, that’s when you’ll learn how to adapt and solve problems. Dive in, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes—that’s how growth happens.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did was support my music career. They did this by enrolling me in voice lessons at just 10 years old and sending me to overnight camps focused on songwriting and music.
Attending these camps helped me build confidence in meeting new people, as I had to step out of my comfort zone and make new friends. I also gained valuable experience recording and writing in studios by the age of 14. This had a huge impact on my skills, songwriting ability, and confidence as an artist.
That confidence later carried over to the business side of the music industry. My parents’ unwavering support and constant encouragement to believe in myself have shaped me into the ambitious, confident, and outgoing person I am today.
I could never thank them enough.
