Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dani Jack. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dani, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
I grew up with a mother who was always thinking of others and doing things for them. She was a volunteer with the Girl Scouts and for the American Youth Soccer Organization my whole life. If one of my friends needed somewhere to stay, our door was always open. She threw amazing parties for my sister and I, and sometimes even for neighborhood kids whose parents were unable to.
When I was old enough to be on my own, I moved to Macau, China, for a singing job for a year. While I was there, I was able to travel other countries in Asia, mostly third world countries, and was able to see how other people live so differently than what I was used to. Being in such pivotal years and having my eyes opened to what felt like another world really showed me that it is important to think outside of yourself and be grateful for what you have.
Now 15 years after that, I am a fundraiser for a nonprofit mental health center in Haiti, as well as sit on the board for a nonprofit songwriting scholarship. Both are very different, but both have a need that I feel I can help to fill. I believe that if you are able, helping and loving others is what we are called to do.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I moved to Nashville in 2016 to pursue a career in music, releasing my first single and later an EP Grace in 2018. Since then, I have released two singles, toured Southwest America as the opening act for Cirque Musica, and played in some of the best clubs and venues in Nashville.
After the shutdown in 2020 put me out of work musically, I started to think about other options. One thing that has always stuck with me is the family business: parties. For over 35 years, my grandparents owned a prominent party store in my hometown of Reno, Nevada, and every family member worked there at some point. It was actually my first job as a child! For years, I have watched the women in my family excel at creating unique events and silk floral designs. I never really felt like I was especially good at florals.
I started seeing this balloon garland trend and was amazed at the artistry within balloon decor. Once I tried it for myself, I was hooked and decided this was the next move for me. I did a mentorship with a good friend of mine who owns the number one balloon company in Charlotte, NC, and have since thrown myself into making this business successful. I have been shocked at how well it’s done and how quickly.
It is really important to me that I connect with my clients and bring their vision to life beyond their expectations. I spend time going to conventions and educating myself with the newest trends and classic styles. This allows me to be creative in the best way. There is nothing better than a happy client!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think being generous is one of the best qualities a person can have, no matter what field they want to go into. This includes being generous in spirit, even if you don’t have financial means to be generous. This means being kind and giving of yourself and your knowledge. When you give, it always comes back to you.
A willingness to learn (humility) is an important quality to have. Even when you think you have learned all you can learn, it’s important to always think that you might be able to learn something from someone else. Opening your mind to that possibility will allow you to connect with others who are trying to teach you and will also allow your creativity to flow. Having more tools and options in your belt is never a bad thing!
Lastly, confidence… even if it’s sometimes forced or fake confidence. The confidence to just start and take that first step. Confidence in yourself, your ideas, and your knowledge. Confidence that even if you fail, there is always another chance to learn from that failure and start over.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
My parents have always been incredibly supportive of everything I’ve done or wanted to do. They have always encouraged me and believed in my dreams and ideas, even when they’ve seen farfetched. Their confidence in me helped me to feel that I could do anything. I feel incredibly lucky to have parents like this, especially being a person with big ideas and stars in my eyes. It would’ve been really easy for them to try to reign me in and convince me to do something safe. I am eternally grateful to them.
