We were lucky to catch up with Dania Nasri recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Dania with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I get my work ethic from both of my parents. They are honestly the most hardworking and generous people that I know. My mom was born in Mexico and my dad was born in Syria. They both moved to the United States at a young age. When they arrived in this country, they both started working right away to help their families. Both of my parents worked multiple jobs at one time until they got to where they wanted to in their careers. Aside from their careers, they both put their 100% effort in everything that they do. They always try to learn new things and acquire new knowledge about a variety of topics. I have always admired both of my parents, not just for their work, but for countless reasons. The first reason that comes to my mind is how they raised my siblings and me. Whenever a family or friend ask them for help, they will help without any hesitation. They are the most selfless people that I know. I am eternally gratefully for both of my parents. I would not be who I am without them. To my parents, thank you for everything. I love you both so much.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m an actor, content creator, dancer, group fitness instructor, and model. I have been an actor in commercials, movies, music videos, short films, television shows, etc. I have danced in concept videos, music videos, and performed at multiple private events. I have also worked as a model for several companies’ advertisement shoots. I have multiple fitness certifications, and I teach a variety of fitness classes including Hip Hop Cardio, Strength Training, and Zumba classes. The most exciting thing about all of this is that I am doing what I love. I have found a way to combine all my passions, and I have had the opportunity to be a part of so many amazing projects! I have also had the opportunity to work with some of my favorite music artists and actors. I am truly thankful for every opportunity I have received!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey have been determination, perseverance, and gratitude. In 2022, I went to several dance auditions and didn’t make the cut. Each ‘no’ I received hurt at first, but then I used that ‘no’ as fuel to continue trying. Going to those auditions helped me gain more confidence in myself and taught me a variety of lessons. When I think of the word “determination,” I think about how I continued going to those auditions and using that ‘no’ as fuel to not give up. I also think about how nowadays I continue to submit to multiple jobs knowing that I will not always hear something back.
As I was auditioning in 2022, I had the opportunity to perform at a couple private events and I was an extra for the very first time. I was an extra for a music video and I truly had a wonderful time being on set. After working those gigs, I did a lot of thinking, and I decided that I wanted to make a change in my career path. I made the decision to put consistent effort into submitting for acting, dance, and modeling gigs. That is when I found a way to combine all my passions. When I think of the word “perseverance,” I think about how I always continue to submit for jobs and attend more auditions. I also think about how I act as my own agent and manager to get booked on more gigs.
When I think of the word “gratitude,” I think about how grateful I am for my journey and for all the lessons that I have learned along the way. I honestly would not change a thing in my journey. I have been a part of so many awesome projects working as an actor, content creator, dancer, and model. With holding onto those three qualities and most importantly, the support of my amazing family, I never quit trying. Shout-out to my amazing parents, two brothers, and my grandma for their continuous support. Now, I am doing what I love to do, and it is all worth it.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
After taking some time to think about this question, I have to say that the most impactful thing they have done for me is provide me with continuous support. My parents have always been supportive of my academic and career choices. They never tried to steer me away from those choices. Both my parents show their support in many ways such as providing words of encouragement when needed and making time to watch the projects I work on. They have always told me that it is important to go after your dreams and goals in life. Whether I tell them I’m working as a dancer for an album release party or acting in a commercial, they are always excited to hear about my accomplishments. Their support means everything to me. To my parents, thank you for all the continuous support you give me and thank you for always being there for me.
