Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Daniel Akinpelu. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Daniel , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
From an extraordinarily young age, I have always known that I’ve wanted to make a profound difference in the world. I grew up in a musical family, and was myself formed in significant ways by listening to, pondering upon, and playing music. From as early as I can remember, I’ve known that music has a spiritual, transcendent element that has a way of surpassing words and evoking emotions in ways that no other artistic expression can do; so, from as early as I can remember, I determined to find out how to leverage music to sway other people in positive ways, and hopefully do for them with my music what the music of others had done for me throughout my youth–process challenges in life, feel related to, and connect with community.
Ultimately, at the very root of what drives my purpose is the Gospel. I believe that everything done is ultimately meant to glorify God (Yahweh) and to point as many as possible towards His love and mercy. In every facet of my business, whether it’s making content, producing music, building websites, shooting videos/photos, etc. my ultimate aim is always to point other to Jesus, and from there I derive my purpose. To me, business is much greater than simply making money. It’s about providing an excellent experience and service/product that not only satisfies the customer’s need, but also that ultimately reflects the goodness and excellence of the Creator of all things, and represents his love and servant-hearted leadership.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Alongside my wife, I provide for profit services in “all things digital.” On a regular basis, I switch between writing, producing, and mixing music for music artists around the globe, filming, photographing, and editing content for other business clients, developing custom branded websites, and providing other branding services for other businesses such as graphic design and marketing strategy.
Personally, my mind is always all over the place. I tend to be pretty ADD (if that isn’t already self-evident based on my various creative ventures), so being able to provide such a variety of creative services constantly keeps my brain engaged and forces me to continually grow as a creative in a broader context. I wake up every morning excited to work in new creative ways.
Currently, my wife and I are developing 10 simplified branded landing pages for small businesses. We’ve already built or onboarded 6 clients for this initiative, but we still have a few spots open, for any small business owners who may be interested! These websites cost only $500 for us to develop sites from scratch, and a small monthly hosting fee to have the websites hosted locally in Tennessee.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I believe the three MOST impactful skills in my journey have been humility, hunger to always learn and grow, and taking extreme ownership.
If I could give any new entrepreneur a word of advice, I would tell them this: Do not wait for other people to take initiative or present opportunities to further your progress. Be as active in your growth journey as you possibly can. Go out and make as many relationships as possible, regardless of what it takes, invest in high value courses to improve in your skillset, and do whatever it takes to move forward. Don’t wait for external factors to move you closer to your goals, because if you do, those opportunities may never come.
Also, regardless of where you are in your path to success, always be extremely humble. At the end of the day, it does not matter what your accomplishments are, how much money is in the bank, what car you drive, etc. if everyone finds you to be repugnant. Though the approval of others is NOT the end all be all, being disliked because of your own arrogance is in no way beneficial.
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
Our ideal client is someone who owns a small business, is extremely passionate about helping others, and is simply reaching their capacity in their ability to create a strong brand and strong marketing around their company. Ideally, this individual is highly collaborative, has a keen ability to communicate their vision for their business, and wants to partner with branding and marketing experts that can help them grow their business and help increase revenue.
it’s definitely a major bonus for us if this individual is also a person of faith and shares similar values pertaining to finances, business, customer satisfaction, etc. but that is not a necessity. We’re happy to partner with anyone who is humble, easy going, passionate about what they do, and is able to communicate well.
