We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Daniel Day Zuko a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Daniel Day, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
My optimism comes from life and the history of my life experiences. When I consider all my ups and downs, I can honestly say that I’ve survived everything. History says I’ll be just fine regardless of the what obstacles I face.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Hi, I’m Daniel Day Zuko—most people just call me Zuko. I work in artist management and booking through Moredopemusic, where we support a select group of bands with their regional booking and collaborate closely with a few artists on the administrative side of their music careers.
Each year, we curate and produce around 30–40 indie shows across the Southeast and surrounding areas. We’re currently gearing up for our biggest project yet: Southeast Indie Fest, a two-day festival happening September 5–6, 2025, at The Garden Club at Wild Heaven (West End) in Atlanta, GA. The lineup will feature 16 of the most exciting emerging bands from across the region, and we couldn’t be more excited to bring it to life.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I’m still learning — and that’s truly been a gift. I try to keep my mind, heart, and spirit open to new possibilities, different perspectives, and new art. One line that’s always stayed with me comes from Way of the Peaceful Warrior by Dan Millman: “There are no ordinary moments.” That reminder continues to shape how I move.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
A few books have deeply resonated with me over the years—Way of the Peaceful Warrior by Dan Millman (as I mentioned earlier), Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse, The Tao of Pooh by Benjamin Hoff, and The Autobiography of Malcolm X as told to Alex Haley.
What connects them, for me, is a shared theme: the pursuit of inner peace and a deeper understanding of self. I’ve come to believe that once you reach that place of clarity, everything else—our work, our causes, even our leisure—becomes less about identity and more about how we choose to spend our time until the next chapter begins.
