Meet Daniel Duron

We were lucky to catch up with Daniel Duron recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Daniel, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?

Self-care is highly important for me as a practitioner of holistic medicine, recovery coach, and healing guide. It is important for me to have my own health and energy organized and clear in such a way that enables me to be available to help others in their individual healing process.
What is most important to me is exercise. To my clients, I always emphasize the importance of sweating, and this is the pillar of my movement practice! I love to do jiu jitsu, yoga, and strength training, and swimming.
Other self-care practices I do on a daily basis are submerging in fresh spring water, and sitting still while breathing and soaking in the rays of the sun.
I have an evening writing practice that helps me organize my thoughts and my intentions for the next day.
All of these practices help me stay present, aligned, and clear of interference so that I can show up in a good way for others.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

At the core of my work, I am blessed to be in a position to help people heal, grow & evolve. I work with my hands, as a bodyworker and sound medicine guide here in Austin, Texas, but I also work remotely with clients all over the country and world. With a background as a visual artist, I’m passionate about bridging the gap between the energetic realm of healing arts and the physical realm of visual art.

My ability to help and heal others comes from my own direct experience of rising out of a difficult time in my own life, one that was driven by a reliance on toxic substances, namely alcohol.
At a particularly low point, I experienced a strong wake-up call that revealed to me the destructive nature of my ways. I listened to this call – and began a profound journey back to my true self. There is nothing that teaches more than the school of hard knocks…and coupled with my trainings in various healing modalities, it was clear that this transformation was something to share with others seeking the same. This journey towards optimum health, vitality and creativity has been something that inspires and motivates my clients, community, and loved ones, and I feel grateful everyday that I can share it.

All of these skills have culminated under the encompassing umbrella of my business, Whole Sky Healing Arts, located in Oak Hill, Austin TX – where I see people in person regularly. One of my favorite things to do is host group courses, as I have found the power of community and connection is one of the greatest healers. I have two long-running online programs called R.E.S.Q Program & 44 Club, that have seen many successful cohorts. In these programs, I share my tools that can help eliminate toxic behaviors, systems to upgrade one’s physical, emotional and mental health, and how to form a deeper and more synchronistic relationship with nature. I also host public and private Sound Medicine events both here in Austin and all over the country. I love joining forces with other aligned souls – people who are interested in learning ways to evolve ethically and expansively.

I’ve recently joined forces with several organizations centered around Recovery work and Sobriety. We are holding events, implementing curriculum, and raising funds to expand our ability to help more folks seeking a healthier path forward in life.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Something that caused a major shift in my life was becoming a more curious person. Curiosity expands our mind, makes it more elastic and pliable. We start to investigate why things happen and become playful with them, rather than looking at the events of our life with a doomed or fated perspective.
Developing curiosity was one major shift, and yet in order to continue developing myself, healing and growing, I also needed a sense of willingness and drive to apply myself each day with momentum, consistency and focus. Imagining big change is one thing, but actually applying action is very different. I like to apply the idea that micro changes with consistency over time create macro results. This helps to break change down into something more digestible, and not daunting!
Another quality of my journey that I would love to share with others, is that of trust and flow. When we open ourselves up to guidance, the teacher(s) appears. In my case, it was many different types of trainings, teachers, and mentors who sharpened my skillset, and my dedication to work and purpose. These teachers don’t always appear in the form we expect, and I also teach my students to become aware of teachers that come to us from nature- in the form of weather, animals, and plants.
Overall, the core of my teachings comes down to simple practices that one can implement daily to initiate big changes. That is something I would want to share with anyone starting out on a healing path- start with small changes! For example, taking a few breaths before you reach for your phone in the morning, or choosing to get to meetings ten minutes early to eliminate a sense of rush or stress.

How would you describe your ideal client?

I encounter many high performing individuals who have given all they have to work and commitments outside themselves, things that are draining them and keeping them in burn-out, and unhealthy addictions or overload. While this is who I see often, I really work with people from all backgrounds, and yet the through line is that the person has a openness and interest to reflect on their life in a different way than they have been. Often, being reflective and taking a different perspective really liberates something that has been stuck for a very long time. This is also where my work as a coach meets my work as a body-worker. Many patterns and problems are not just living consciously in our mind but also subconsciously in our bodies. My ideal client is someone who is ready to view their life holistically, to understand that all our choices, habits, and thought patterns work in concert to create our overall health. Untangling these patterns takes time, effort and investment. This investment in one’s self and one’s future is a great signal to the universe that the individual is ready and open to heal.
