Meet Daniel Hygge

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Daniel Hygge a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Daniel, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?

The question itself already paints a picture in my mind…

I’ve learned that being effective and successful usually means trusting my inner child. I’m constantly asking myself, “What would my 11-year-old self do?, then I just follow it. I’ve realized the only way I know how to solve problems is by staying creative. Be different by being me. I’m not trying to blend in. I’m blunt with my opinions, I trust that inner voice that just wants to play, experiment, and have fun.

Let me tell you a quick story about how “Stories” got me here.

Back in 2016, Instagram dropped the Stories feature, and I was hooked. Vertical, in-the-moment storytelling? Game-changer. I immediately saw it as a powerful way to showcase work. So, I started offering “stories” as a service to clients—except no one really got it back then so I just started doing it myself. Every. Single. Day. I helped my artist friends—musicians, painters, photographers—create stories while they performed, often for free. You know that saying that you become a master once you’ve reached 10,000 hours of work? I think I did them.

Eventually, people started calling for songwriting sessions, video sets, brand activations—I was the person for live storytelling, capturing the energy of the moment in real time.

Doing stories opened doors to projects I dreamed of working. Stories took me places. Including here, writing this story for you.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m a creative director in the entertainment industry, and my job is basically helping brands tell their stories across different platforms. Think of it as transmedia storytelling—using things like art direction, photography, film, and documenting events to create experiences that actually engage with an audience.

All of that I bring it to the digital world and help brands shape their strategy across platforms. It’s not just about posting—it’s about creating a narrative, something people want to be part of.

Fun fact 1: My background is actually in music and songwriting, that’s how i found the perfect mix between art and marketing mainly within the music industry. I went to school for music business creative production, business administration, and mass communications.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

For me, it’s all about consistency, repetition, and storytelling. Those three qualities have been the backbone of my creative journey. As a creative director, you need to know how to piece things together in a way that not only makes sense but also makes it happen.

Keeping those three has been key to building my brand presence in the digital world.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

Paying for my college tuition—at all three majors—which allowed me to fully focus on cultivating my creativity. That freedom let me dive into passion projects, and those projects became the stories that led me to where I am today.
