Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Daniel Jimenez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Daniel, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Purpose, what a weird thing, in a way it’s ever changing, once you reach a goal, it’s time to find another and another, and in a way it keeps the wheel of our existence moving.
I’d say purpose is linked to our talents, to that we naturally gravitate towards.
To someone it can be the gift of speech, they are great communicators and I feel like their purpose would be linked to their gift of expression, I have never been the one to speak in public, growing up, I was the quiet kid in the back of the classroom, but I loved to draw, art comes naturally to me, and therefore there lied my purpose,
My purpose is to create, creating art, and sticking to it has always opened doors, even if I didn’t even know that I was walking a specific path.
Sticking to what you love and perseverance guides the way and doors open.
As you move through this path, the purpose shifts, when you reach a goal, a new purpose arises, but trusting your gut through adversity keeps you going, and looking for inspiration around you brings on fresh a new perspectives.
So again, what is my purpose?
To create, to inspire others, to keep seeking inspiration and through connections and experiences keep my existence busy and in motion till the day my battery’s run out lol
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Hi there, my name is Daniel and I’ve been tattooing for over 15 years, I’m an artist at heart, tattooing is my main craft and I love it but it’s only one of the many things I enjoy doing.
I draw, paint, carve stones, make jewelry, pottery, sculpture and make music.
I have a main focus In symbology and fantasy art and I believe them to be connected as fantasy tends to be an abstraction of reality or an abstract concept.
I love interpreting concepts and dreams and that’s why I love tattooing, is a chance to connect with a client at a deeper level, interpret their idea and bring it to life through my vision.
I own a business, a tattoo studio and creative space called SPACE TIME LOVE in Chicago, we’ve been running since 2020 and were an appointment only type studio.
I really enjoy unique styles and creativity so we’re what I believe to be a pretty solid team of friends and artists with unique personalities in our artistic styles and we really enjoy doing shop outings and weekly art nights, to keep the creative energy flowing and staying inspired in this digitally draining world.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
One of my best qualities I’d say is to be driven, not sure if that makes sense, but there’s something I told my first apprentice, If you can see it in your minds eye, if you can envision yourself doing something, then you can make it happen”.
And that has always been me, I knew I was going to become and artist, and at some point at around 15 years old I fell in love with tattooing, I knew that’s what I wanted to do and no one could change my mind.
I had teachers tell me that tattooing wasn’t a real career, my parents say it was demonic and friends that my art was too weird, but I did it anyway. Sometimes you just need to trust yourself no matter what.
That drive is what made me push through adversity, and like I said before, when you walk the path, no matter how foggy it is doors will open, just trust the process and put in the work of course.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
That’s been a lot in the picture lately.
Work, travels,relationships,bills the economy…
Sounds so cliché but sometimes we just need silence.
Seek stillness, I personally love doing this at night but for some people is better sitting under the first rays of sunlight.
Just take a breath, no music, just sit still or lay down and listen to all the sounds around you. A lot of what is overwhelming us is not even real, the second half does not require immediate action and a lot escapes our own reach. Take another breath, relax, let go of all that weighs, question yourself what can I tackle on today ? And baby steps, try to sit with yourself at least once at day for a 20-30 mins. Write things down, make lists..
Helps a lot
