Meet Daniel Lurie

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Daniel Lurie. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Daniel below.

Daniel, we sincerely appreciate you joining us today and agreeing to talk about some very personal topics. So, to kick things off, let’s talk about a tough one – divorce. Can you talk to us about how you overcame divorce?

I overcame divorce by eventually becoming a monk.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I try to do as little as possible in the external world…but internally tranquillizing the mind calming the heart letting go of past, and future and seeing the reality of the present moment.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Intelligence, honesty, and perserverance. I think one needs to get their priorities straight and understand what really matters in life and then honesty becomes tremendously important.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

The early teachings of the Buddha pierced my heart in 2017 when I first came across the Dhammapada and Suttanipata. I had been into Zen and Tibetan Buddhism for a long time, but oddly enough I never heard the original word of the Buddha. It was shocking and literally changed my life more than any other input. I never thought I would have become a monk, but at a certain point it was the only thing that made sense. I´ll quote one verse from the Dhammapada–Let the past wither, afterwards let there be nothing, if in the present you do not cling, truly you may wander in peace—

And one from the Atthakavagga of the Sutta Nipata—Everywhere the sage is independant, not making anything dear or undear, that is why sorrow and lamentation, don´t stick to him like water on a lotus leaf—
