Meet Daniel Messersmith

We recently connected with Daniel Messersmith and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Daniel , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
It started on an 11 acre farm in my beautiful hometown of Denison TX Shout out to Denison Tx! I was raised to work hard and do my very best with everything. We had horses, sheep m, dogs, cats and even a Llama. But being raised in an environment like that forced me to become responsible and a hard worker. I don’t look back at it with discomfort or anything negative. It’s something I carry and am proud of.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
In the beginning of this year, I stepped out into new territory by starting a podcast. I not only wanted to share my story, but give other people a platform to share their experiences. It was super scary to even think about it because I’m not the greatest when talking but neither was Moses, and God still used him. I truly believe that when you feel a calling on your life, you jump out and take a risk. You never know who’s life you will impact even if its just one.

My podcast purpose is to show others that they are loved and that nothing they struggle with is too impossible to overcome, and not for from God’s love. I hope that God uses it to help others and I hope I grow in my faith through it.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
In my Sr high school, I took a speech and debate class to improve my communication skills. It really helped me not only just improve my speech abilities but also just my every day interactions with others. Another skill, was my skill to research and to be able to provide solid sources for any paper or presentations. In podcasting , you always want to have solidified sources on whatever topic you are discussing at the time. You wouldn’t listen to a podcasts that always said *I’m not sure on this, I’m just ballparking this * We listen to them to gained knowledge and understanding, not to hope to.
One thing I’m learning is not to take it too seriously. Have fun with it. It’s not a clock in clock out kind of thing. It’s supposed to be fun. Not only are the listeners learning but you are too be proud of it. In the weeks of researching each episode whether it’s a topic or interviewing another candidate, I’m gaining insight and experience. It’s a learning experience that should be fun.
You won’t be perfect at it the first time. I was nervous as all get out and I still get nervous, it’s part of life. But let your hair down, relax those muscles grab your favorite drink and ALWAYS TAKE NOTES I love jotting down notes from my guests.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
So quite a few people have played a role. My wife, Brenda has played a huge role in supporting me. Even on my stressful days and overwhelming ones, she’s there to tell me I’ll get through it. My mom, obviously, has always been my big cheerleader. She’s always on the sidelines and there to show me where I need to improve. All my friends who have been on my podcast Nick, Lyndsie and Brandon, have been absolutely been amazing. They always are authentic about what I can achieve and where I can be better. They really have given confidence which is a very important skill to have.
