Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Danielle Brown. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Danielle, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
I have been always known as the one to lift people up, I am the one people call when they need a motivational push or just some light in their life. What most don’t know is that person did not alway exist. I was a teen mom, struggling to find my way with much adversity coming my way. People paint a picture and write your story for you off of their own perceptions. I use to struggle with this as I felt that I needed to prove that I wasn’t that person people presumed. So my optimism comes from having to be my own light. Having to motivate myself because honestly I became my biggest critic. I literally went through so much at a young age that I decided to stop listening to others and look at the bright side of things. I have 3 beautiful healthy children, we are provided for and overall doing just fine. From that point forward I just dec that I would see the bright side of all things. I am a true believer that everything happens for a reason so take that lesson from it and move on to the next. I have literally been told by a friend that they didn’t want to talk to me because they knew I would turn it around to a positive lol…I just can’t help it, life is beautiful everyday you wake up even when it doesn’t feel like it
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
As a young mom I put most of my focus on being a wife and mother. I took so much pride in that (and still do) but did not realize I was putting my gifts and talents on the back burner. I have always took an interest in visuals, I was always the one with a camera (even when disposable or Polaroid was the thing lol) because I always wanted the memories to look back at. Once cameras and phones added video I literally found a new love that I had no clue the significance of. I was always the one at the family function or friends party with my phone or camera out, documenting the story. As time evolved my son took interest in film, and writing, (he (Eriq Dixon) is actually senior at unc Wilmington in film with a minor in writing. He has written several articles for the school paper and even has IMBD credits for a film he helped write and acted in) well I said all that to say I always loved his talent and was in awww with it. I just never realized his talents might have just came from me lol…as time went on and my kids grew up I took more and more interest is film, I started to pay attention to social media more because that is where I saw cool visuals that resonated with my soul, I know that may sound weird to most but when visuals are done right you feel them and they evoke emotion. How many times do you scroll social media or the internet and you stop and laugh, or cry, or feel proud of someone. This is what pushed me into my career today. As I got more and more into videography my skills progressed and people noticed. They started asking me to help film this or that or when I left an event they would message me to say they can’t wait to see the video I come up with. I still did not see this as a talent or business because it was just fun hobby, it was my outlet. One day while filming a friends podcast he said “you should really make this a business” at the time already a entrepreneur but doing more contract & drop-shipping work I said hmmmm why not. I begin to look into where I could take this hobby and already being a fan of social media that was the first thing I thought of. I started paying closer attention and perfecting my skills. I would see so many businesses and influencers who had something special but didn’t quite know how to do what I could. I said that’s it, I’ll make their social medias “socially desirable” and boom my business was born. I realized I was a visual storyteller, I have a talent of capturing people authenticity and telling their story. I started working with business and brands that shy away from social media because they don’t like the camera or didn’t want to fit in the typical social media box. My business literally took off over night. I love being able to see businesses and brands who didn’t like social media now love it. I have helped businesses and brands advertise and gain more customers/clients which in turn is more revenue. I am excited about my class I will be launching in October. I will be helping people that want to create content for businesses/brands or even themselves learn how.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Authenticity- learning early on to love myself despite of the naysayers taught me how to be authentically me. Now I use that in finding the beauty in everyone, you just being you is beautiful and I encourage that to my clients
Storytelling- I am a visual storyteller, I love to tell your story in a way that resonates with your audience. I’m known as the “BTS (behind the scenes) queen” because I let you be you and I visually tell your story
Being nice lol…I know that seems cliche but literally people love to talk to me, they feel free to open up and I make it easy for them to be themselves. That skill goes a long way in a world of robots. People feel refreshed to be able to just be themselves and still be able to show up visually for their business or brand
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Dr. Shinika McKiever has really came into my life and showed me a new way. She down plays what she has done for me but her knowledge and skill is phenomenal. She really taught me a new way to look at my business and how to scale this from a hobby to real viable business. Being a entrepreneur already I thought I had this all together and I was so wrong lol…I have learned how to put my processes in place to be successful and I will forever be grateful for my amazing business coach
