Meet Danielle Chiprut

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Danielle Chiprut a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Danielle , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience comes from personal loss and the deep desire to create something lasting out of that grief. Losing both of my parents within two years of each other shook everything I thought I knew about life. But it also gave me incredible clarity. My father was an entrepreneur and my mother, though not formally trained, was always designing and curating our home with love. After they passed, I poured myself into restoring our 1930s Tudor. It became a form of healing. When that home was published and people began reaching out, it sparked something in me: a purpose. Starting Danielle Rose Design Co. was a leap into the unknown, but I kept showing up because of them—because I wanted to carry forward their legacy of creativity, love, and intention. That’s where my resilience is rooted: in turning something painful into something meaningful.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

At Danielle Rose Design Co., we create homes that tell a story—layered, warm, and full of soul. What truly sets us apart is the depth of connection we build with our clients. We take the time to understand their memories, heirlooms, and everyday rhythms, so that each space feels entirely personal, collected, and lived-in from day one.

What excites us most right now is the opportunity to keep evolving while staying grounded in our values. We’re expanding our portfolio of full-home renovations and restorations, with a special focus on character-filled historic properties. These projects let us celebrate craftsmanship while thoughtfully integrating modern functionality—and that balance is where the magic happens.

Behind the scenes, we’re working on several exciting ventures that will unfold later this year—one of which is a beach house we’ve been designing for over a year. It’s a dream project, and we’re absolutely over the moon about it.

Most of all, our focus is on intentional growth. Not just bigger—but deeper. More meaningful collaborations with artists and craftspeople. More spaces that evoke feeling. And more ways to help our clients feel truly, deeply at home.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. Empathy + Deep Listening
The most transformative part of my work has always been understanding people—not just their design preferences, but their stories, routines, and what makes them feel at home. Empathy allows us to listen beyond the surface and create spaces that are truly personal. For anyone just starting out: practice really listening. Ask thoughtful questions. Observe how people live. Design is about more than what looks good—it’s about what feels right.

2. Creative Vision Grounded in Flexibility
Having a strong creative perspective has been essential, but so has knowing when to pivot. No project ever goes exactly as planned, and being able to adjust while holding onto the core vision is key. I’d tell anyone in the early stages: develop your eye, but eep learning. Be open to the unexpected. Flexibility doesn’t weaken your vision—it refines it.

3. Storytelling Through Design
Being able to tell a story through a space is at the heart of what we do. Whether it’s honoring a home’s history or weaving in a client’s memories, storytelling creates depth and resonance. For newer designers or creatives, my advice is to start with why. Why do you love this piece? Why does this color speak to you? Why does that layout feel right? Your ability to articulate those answers will strengthen your work and your connection with others.

Ultimately, this work is about more than design—it’s about human connection. And the more you stay true to your values and your voice, the more fulfilling your journey will be.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

My parents, hands down. My dad showed me what it looked like to build something from nothing. He was a small business owner who taught me that success comes from showing up consistently—even when things feel uncertain. My mom, meanwhile, was the heart of our home. She wasn’t a professional designer, but she had an innate sense of style and a deep love for creating beauty around her. Together, they modeled work ethic, creativity, and resilience in the most grounded way. They’re the reason I do this work, and their influence still guides how I lead, create, and connect with clients.
