Meet Danielle Moore

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Danielle Moore. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Danielle, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I found my purpose by being rear-ended by irresponsible drivers- twice.

In 2019, I raced my first triathlon. I loved it, and immediately signed up for a second. Less than 24 hours from the start of that second tri, I was helping my parents with some chores at their shore house. We arrived slightly early, and decided to drive around the block before headed in for between-renter cleanup. At a four-way stop sign, the woman behind us was texting and driving and hit my dad’s car. I felt the impact before I saw what happened; my head slammed into the car seat, my body at the mercy of someone else’s actions. It took me eight months to recover from my third concussion.

I completed my first marathon swim in August of 2024. Triathlon has given me a lot, but the most impactful being the exposure to marathon swimming. A marathon in swimming is an open water swim of 10 kilometers or more, the most famous being the English Channel. Marathon swimming lights me up more than any sport I’ve every done, and I found the perfect swim for me in 2025.

May 23, 2025, I was rear-ended again. A woman with faulty brakes hit me and my friend at a yield sign, and the swim I was supposed to do the following day was destroyed. I felt broken by the actions of others, and deferred my big swim. I don’t forgive that woman, nor do I forgive the people who treated me poorly in the aftermath of that situation. But I did find my “why”.

I swim, I run, I do the things I do because I am now the adult that would have protected younger me and continues to protect empathy and inclusion wherever I go. No one deserves to feel alone, abandoned, or shamed. I do what I do because I show up as the person who treats others with compassion, dignity, and respect, even though unfortunately I have not always been provided the same. I am now signed up to swim 28.5 miles around the island of Manhattan in September, and am living proof that you can lead in hard things with strong values and a heart for others.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

-Leading with curiosity instead of doubt or fear
-Understanding the distinction between “talent” and “skill” and that skill takes time
-A sense of control over when to plan versus when to be spontaneous
