We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Danielle Oliveira a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Danielle , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
It certainly comes from God, from my family base, which is very strong and has always given me a lot of security and support for any adversity, from my husband and my children, who are the most precious thing I have. All these forces make me more resilient, ready to move mountains, that is, prepared for any adversity that life may throw at me, always with lightness and optimism that there will be something better the next day. Being resilient is being prepared and oriented towards continuous action in the search for favorable results in our life, whether personal or professional. Finally, I believe in my ability to overcome adverse situations and I have perseverance and self-confidence as my allies in this learning process.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am from Brasilia, Brazil. I am the oldest of two siblings. We came from a poor area called favela ( the project region ) . I am the result of a relationship between teenagers. My father was 17 yo when I was born and my mother was 16 yo. They were incredible parents who gave me the best they could offer, lots of love and affection. I have great memories of a beautiful childhood, although with some difficulties being part of a high crime rate community. However, we never lost each other. I graduated as a Portuguese teacher at a renowned university in Brasilia, but I did not proceed with it. When I thought about being a teacher, my dream was make a difference in the lives of the people who came along my path. I could help them have a much better opportunity through a good education. However, life gave me a better opportunity, I love being professionally in PMU Micropigmentation so I can make all of these women proud of themselves again. If someone had told me that doing eyebrows or paramedical corrections would bring me so much joy and satisfaction a few years ago, I wouldn’t have believed it. But it was there as a Micropigmentation Artist that I find fulfillment every day. I dedicate myself through my art, with it I restore self-esteem and smiles and the most important tears of happiness. You have no idea how I feel when I do my work, which for me is more then a pleasure, I call a therapy of love. Sitting on my stool and watching the magic of transformation happening in each appointment it’s emotionally, I think I’m a lucky person to work with something that I truly love. When I came here from Brazil, I already had a consolidated career, many certifications, a beautiful workspace and a stable financial life. When I arrived here, my 7-year-old daughter and I, just the two of us and with only 600 dollars survived until I started working, it was a huge challenge. We had to start from scratch and make a name for ourselves again, it was hard and bureaucratic work, many barriers and a very different language and culture. However, I was never afraid of absolutely nothing.. I was always very confident and knew that God would never abandon me or leave me helpless. I also knew my professional qualifications and that it would only be a while until people got to know my work and that’s what happened. Today, 5 years later, I know that I am the best Micropigmentation artist in my region. I fought hard and never stopped. I got married and my husband was a pillar in this country for me. During this journey, I got pregnant and even while pregnant, I went to school so that I could get my work permits. After the birth of my son, 2 months later, I was back at work and I had to bring him with me many times since I had nobody to support me watching over him. Here, he was my daily companion for 1 year and 8 months. I often held him on my lap because he didn’t want to be in his stroller or with anyone else. I got exhausted. But as soon as he was old enough, he went to daycare. That way, I had more autonomy. I went back to studying and dedicating myself a little more to the Paramedical area, helping people who had cancer and lost their eyebrows or areolas after treatment. Right now, we have an incredible project called (reconstruction) aimed at people who have overcome cancer and are able to have their eyebrows or areolas done. This project is completely voluntary and free for women who can’t afford it. After an illness like this, “cancer victims” need to have the strength to rebuild themselves, emotionally, physically and mentally. That’s why the name of our project is reconstruction, something that was lost. That way, I can be part of rebuilding the lives of these women’s aesthetically, making them look in the mirror again and find themselves. That gives me great emotional satisfaction. Knowing that through my art, I can help people by doing the same. difference in their lives. Today I have partnerships with hospitals and NGOs to reach as many people as possible. I’m here in this not to only have a better life for my family and I but to also serve with my talent and dedication to the Americans who always treat me as a human being who God made me to be.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, without persistence, courage and resilience, I would never have gotten this far. At the first sign of adversity, I would have gone back to my comfort zone. Having the courage to pursue your dreams in a tangible and real way will be a determining factor in your journey. It is not enough to have dreams if we do not have the courage to pursue them. Know that our progress is daily. We cannot give up. Every effort will be worth it. If I could give advice to someone who is just starting out, I would say: have God, determination, love, focus and persistence. No process is easy, but we reap everything we sow. Be your only opponent on this journey. Always try to be better than you were yesterday. Plan and improve what you are already good at. Stay focused and you will stand out from the crowd and become a unique professional.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
As I said before, my parents were teenage parents. I think they could have chosen not to stop their lives and not have me. They decided to give up their lives, which were just beginning, to take on such a huge responsibility as marriage and the birth of a child at 17 years of age. They did it with such mastery, love and care that I am very grateful for it. They fought for our family and today they have been married for 35 years. For me, that is wealth: having a love for life, strong and stable children, because a house built on strong foundations will not be destroyed.
If I could recommend a book to someone, I would undoubtedly recommend the Holy Bible. Only the word of God will help you in any situation to solve any problem you have. God assures us in Hebrews 13:5
