Meet Danny Barros

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Danny Barros. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Danny, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience comes from a combination of my life experiences, my professional journey, and the inspiring people I’ve had the privilege to work with. Growing up in Boston taught me the value of hard work and perseverance. The challenges I faced there, along with the community spirit, instilled in me a determination to overcome obstacles and keep pushing forward, no matter what.

Professionally, my 19 years in the music industry have been a testament to resilience. Navigating the ever-evolving landscape of the industry requires adaptability and a relentless drive. I’ve spearheaded marketing campaigns and release strategies for some of the biggest names in music and each project came with its unique set of challenges. Learning from these experiences and seeing the success of these campaigns has reinforced my belief in the power of persistence and innovation.

Additionally, my mentors at Berklee College of Music and colleagues at Hitskope Music Group have shown me the importance of resilience. Watching my business partners Richard Nash and Neal Zamil navigate their careers with grace and determination has been incredibly motivating. They say that iron sharpens iron, and I’m lucky to be surrounded by individuals who challenge me, inspire me, and push me to new heights. Resilience isn’t just about bouncing back; it’s about bouncing back better, stronger, and more determined. And that’s what we do every single day at Hitskope.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Well, where do I start? I’ve been in the music industry for 19 incredible years, and I’ve been the President of Hitskope Music Group since 2018. Throughout my career I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the most prominent names in the industry such as Harry Styles, Silk Sonic, BTS, Hit-Boy and several others. It’s like living in a real-life dream where your passion fuels your profession.

Hitskope Music Group is a music company with three dynamic divisions: a record label, a publishing company, and a music marketing agency. Each division is a cog in the machine that drives our mission to redefine the music industry. Our record label is all about discovering and nurturing talent, showcasing them on a global level. The publishing company is where we craft the stories behind the music, ensuring every artist’s voice is heard in the most impactful way. And our marketing agency is the engine that powers everything, using creative marketing strategies to connect artists with fans in ways that are both innovative and authentic.

Right now, we’re gearing up to launch Hitskope Distribution, a project we’ve been working on for the last three years. We believe this will revolutionize the music industry by empowering independent artists and labels. It’s innovative and the only distribution service of its kind. Picture this: independent artists and labels having access to the same resources and opportunities as major labels, but with the freedom to maintain their creative control. Hitskope Distribution is designed to level the playing field, giving the power back to the creators.

This journey isn’t just about business for me; it’s deeply personal. Music saved me, shaped me, and gave me a purpose. That’s why I’m so passionate about what I do. I want to give back to the industry that gave me everything and ensure that the next generation of artists has even more opportunities to shine.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, I’d say three key qualities have been instrumental in my journey:

Adaptability
Relentless curiosity
Strategic networking

These aren’t just buzzwords; they’re the pillars that have supported me through every twist and turn in this ever-evolving industry.

Adaptability is number one. The music industry is in a constant state of flux. From vinyl to streaming, the landscape is always changing. Being adaptable means being open to new technologies, trends, and methods. It’s about not getting too comfortable with the status quo and always being ready to pivot when necessary. For those early in their journey, my advice is simple: stay flexible. Embrace change rather than resist it. Dive into new tools and platforms, and don’t be afraid to experiment.

Relentless curiosity is another game-changer. In this industry, there’s always something new to learn. Whether it’s the latest social media platform or emerging music trends, being curious keeps you ahead of the curve. I’ve always been a voracious learner, constantly reading, attending workshops, and going back to school. For those just starting, I’d say never stop learning. Be curious about everything, ask questions, and immerse yourself in every aspect of the industry.

Lastly, strategic networking has been crucial. Building genuine relationships with others in the industry can open doors you didn’t even know existed. It’s not just about collecting business cards; it’s about forging real connections. Whether it’s collaborating with artists, partnering with other businesses, or seeking advice from seasoned executives, these relationships can be invaluable. For those at the beginning of their journey, my advice is to network with intention. Be genuine, offer value, and don’t just think about what you can gain but also what you can give.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

When it comes to overcoming challenges and developing essential skills, I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have an amazing team by my side. It’s a collective effort, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without their support.

My team at Hitskope is a constant source of inspiration. They’re not just colleagues; they’re a family. Each member brings unique strengths and perspectives, driving us forward. Their dedication and creativity push me to be better every day, and together, we’ve overcome countless obstacles.

Mentors have also played a crucial role in my journey. They’ve believed in me, shared their wisdom, and pushed me to think bigger. One of my professors at Berklee College of Music emphasized adaptability and resilience, teaching me that setbacks are setups for comebacks.

For anyone on their journey, surround yourself with a strong team, seek out mentors, and never stop learning. Build relationships with those who challenge and inspire you, and always be open to new knowledge. With the right people by your side, there’s no limit to what you can achieve.
