Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Danny Ramirez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Danny, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Having confidence and self-esteem is something that can steadily be developed with the right mind set. Its important to fully embrace who you are, flaws and all. Understand that nobody is perfect, and that’s what makes you unique. Self-acceptance is the foundation of self-esteem. Pay attention to your inner dialogue. Replace self-criticism and negative thoughts with positive affirmations. Treat yourself with the same kindness and encouragement you would offer to a friend or loved one. Spend time with people who support and uplift you. Healthy relationships can provide a strong sense of belonging and validation. You have to remember that developing confidence and self-esteem is an ongoing process, and setbacks are a natural part of that process. The key is to persevere, be kind to yourself, and keep working on becoming the best version of yourself. I’m still learning to fully hone in on these skills, but its a steady clime that I know I can make happen for myself.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Danny Ramirez and I’m the creator of @muycutemerch. As a graphic designer by trade I always wanted to create a line of graphic t-shirts that would encompass his own skill set when it comes to illustration and typography. Muy Cute was born as a platform for all things that are queer, taken from Mexican/Salvadoran culture, and various pop culture references. My favorite part of creating this brand has been being able to take it on the road to various mercados and seeing first hand how people enjoy my pieces. Thankfully I have received an outpouring of love from mercados I have participated in at locations in Washington, Oregon, California, and Texas. Latino male culture demands that we withhold emotion and remain serious. I wanted to break this cycle and show that there isn’t anything wrong with loving things that are considered feminine, evoke emotion, and cross the line when it comes to gender roles. It has been a rewarding journey so far and I’m excited to keep moving forward with Muy Cute and any other endeavors by pushing boundaries and staying true to myself.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three important qualities I want to touch on are as follows. Curiosity being the first. Curiosity is a driving force for creativity. It encourages you to explore new ideas, ask questions, and seek out diverse experiences. A curious mindset can lead to fresh perspectives and innovative solutions. The second being resilience. Creativity often involves facing challenges and setbacks. Resilience is the ability to persevere through difficulties, learn from failures, and adapt to changing circumstances. It allows you to keep pushing forward in your creative endeavors. The third is having diverse knowledge/mindset. A broad base of knowledge from various fields can greatly enhance creativity. Drawing from different disciplines and integrating their principles can lead to unique and innovative ideas. Cross-pollination of knowledge often sparks creativity, this is super important to staying on top of trends, lived experiences, or story telling. These qualities and skills can help foster creativity and contribute to a successful creative journey. However, the specific qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that are most impactful may vary depending on the individual and their creative pursuits.
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
Currently I have found it challenging to fully take a deep dive when it comes to creating art work. More specifically when it comes to creating for my brand Muy Cute Merch. I have fully enjoyed everything that has come with creating and learning with my brand, especially all the beautiful connections I have fostered with people around the nation. I have found that I have really enjoyed taking on more of supportive role with my friends and creative connects as of lately. It brings me a lot of joy when I see loved ones succeed, create, and be their true authentic selves. I do hope to get back to creating for my brand sooner rather then later, but in the current head space I am in, I have found it important to be 100% selfish. I am catering to my needs as a person and exploring myself as an individual.
