Meet Danya Izarraraz

We were lucky to catch up with Danya Izarraraz recently and have shared our conversation below.

Danya, thank you so much for making time for us. We’ve always admired your ability to take risks and so maybe we can kick things off with a discussion around how you developed your ability to take and bear risk?

I always say candids over perfection! Taking risks in wedding photography for me is knowing not everything is always under my control and posing, this keeps me on my feet and allows me to be in the moment capturing every little detail and real emotion throughout the day, breaking out traditional book photography to capture emotion is something I highly value, capturing these emotions and having my couples re live their wedding day through their gallery is my main goal! Trusting my eye, practicing relentlessly, and realizing that emotion beats perfection every time. Once I saw how much more real my photos felt when I took risks, it stopped being scary it became necessary!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Hi there, I’m Danya Izarraraz!
I’m a candid wedding photographer based in Palm Springs, and I specialize in capturing real, heartfelt love stories in the most authentic way possible. With a true to color, timeless, and a little romantic style focused on those unposed and in between moments that make each couple’s day unique. I love capturing my couples as they truly are, keeping things natural and effortless, my priority is always authenticity and connection. I believe in making couples feel completely at ease in front of the camera so they can be themselves and truly enjoy the moment. Whether it’s a big celebration or an intimate elopement, I’m honored to document the day as it unfolds. I love to travel and have photographed weddings all over from California to New York to Mexico, I’m always thrilled to capture love wherever it takes me.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Communication, I highly prioritize communication with my clients, I believe it allows me to capture them in a more natural way, allowing me to visualize how they view their day and how I can capture from the stories and moments they’ve shared of their relationship with me.

Emotional intelligence, during a wedding day there are so many emotions involved, I think it is important to read a room and allowing everyone to feel comfortable around me, recognizing when to step back, and know when to step in for a perfect shot allows me capture more of these raw candid moments throughout the day.

Problem solving, sometimes weather, lighting conditions, or unexpected changes in the schedule can create challenges on a wedding day. I am always on my feet if I need to adapt to a situation and come up with creative solutions to keep things on track and still capture beautiful images.

How would you describe your ideal client?

The ideal client for me is someone who truly values authenticity and real moments. You’re the type of couple who wants to capture the real emotions of the day the joy, the laughter, and those quiet, intimate glances rather than posing for stiff, staged shots. You’re looking for a relaxed, fun atmosphere, where you can be yourselves and enjoy the celebration while I do the work of capturing it all. I believe in storytelling, so I want to document your wedding day in a way that feels personal and genuine, from the anticipation and excitement to the sweet moments in between. You appreciate timeless, high quality photography that will allow you to relive your day for years to come. Most importantly, you want to feel comfortable and natural in front of the camera, and you trust me to guide you through the day in a way that feels effortless. If this sounds like you, we’ll be a perfect match!
