We were lucky to catch up with Danyel Lemus recently and have shared our conversation below.
Danyel, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I grew up in a family of resilient women. My grandmother taught me it’s never too late to make a career change. She became a Registered ER Nurse after raising five children. My aunt taught me to fight for your seat at the table. She worked in a male-dominated industry and worked her way up in the company. My mother taught me, never to give up. I witnessed countless challenges and obstacles she faced as a single parent. She never quit. She pushed through and did what was necessary to provide. Not one time did I see or hear her complain. They made it look easy although I know now, it wasn’t.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My goal is to inspire women to embrace their God-given identity and live life on purpose. I enjoy working with women leaders and entrepreneurs. With so much on their plates, their image often takes a back seat. I step in and remind them of the value they offer to their family, profession, and community. I help build women’s personal and professional development through my Empowered In Pumps and Virtuous Women in the Workplace coaching programs. I help women present themselves confidently through their appearance and verbal, and non-verbal communication. I coach on leadership, style, and etiquette. God created every woman with a plan, purpose, and promise and they are equipped to do great things!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Honesty, integrity, and assertiveness have helped and continue to help me on my journey. Be the person you want to be surrounded by. I’m honest and practice integrity because I expect the same from others. Does that mean that everyone I encounter is honest or has integrity? No. Surround yourself with enough honesty and people of integrity, it becomes easy to spot the ones that are not. You have the choice to continue dealing with them or not. Assertiveness is a core communication skill. Learn how to clearly and confidently express your wants, thoughts, and ideas.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My faith and family are keys to my continued success. My faith in God has kept me in the most challenging and best stages of life. He has sustained me and has never failed me. My family encourages, strengthens, and supports me. Without either, I would not be here.
