Daphine, so great to have you sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our readers and so let’s jump right into one of our favorite topics – empathy. We think a lack of empathy is at the heart of so many issues the world is struggling with and so our hope is to contribute to an environment that fosters the development of empathy. Along those lines, we’d love to hear your thoughts around where your empathy comes from?
The conditions that helped me develop my empathy were growing up in a low-income neighborhood, facing various struggles, and having a father who was blind. Additionally, being raised in a family with six children, where we had to share and look out for one another, played a significant role in fostering empathy. The challenges we faced together taught me the importance of considering others and looking beyond my own circumstances.
Furthermore, my strict religious upbringing and being sheltered from certain experiences made me the target of teasing, ridicule, and mockery. This allowed me to empathize with others who may have faced similar forms of mistreatment or judgment. Through these experiences, I learned the value of treating others with love, respect, and kindness, regardless of our differences or backgrounds.
Above all, my parents were instrumental in teaching and exemplifying the principles of empathy. They lived their lives according to the teachings of the Bible, which emphasized compassion, understanding, and caring for others. Their actions and guidance provided me with excellent examples to follow, and their teachings instilled in me a deep sense of empathy that has stayed with me throughout my life.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am Daph, a lifestyle, fashion, and faith content creator originally from Louisiana and currently based in Houston, Texas. What I find most exciting and special about my work is the opportunity to connect with people and make a positive impact on their lives. Through uplifting content, singing, writing, and building others up, I strive to inspire and encourage others on their own journeys.
One of the key aspects of my brand, SimplyDaph, is the focus on faith and modest fashion. I aim to provide a safe space for women to explore relevant and stylish modest fashion looks that resonate with other Christian women. The goal is to showcase that modesty is not devoid of class and integrity, but rather encompasses those qualities.
As a wife and mother of three, family is a significant part of my life, and I draw inspiration from my experiences as a millennial married woman and a mom. I also recently became a pastor’s wife, which has deepened my understanding of faith and community, influencing the way I connect with my audience.
In addition to my work as a content creator, I have collaborated with various brands and have been able to make a decent living through influencing. This has allowed me to expand my reach and connect with a broader audience.
I am also excited to share that I have recently released my first Christian music single. Music is another avenue for me to express my faith and spread messages of hope, love, and resilience.
Overall, I am dedicated to creating a positive and uplifting space for women of all backgrounds and walks of life. I want to empower others to embrace their faith, find their own unique sense of style, and live with integrity and confidence.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back on my journey, the three most impactful qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge were determination, having a vision, and consistency. Alongside these, leaning into my faith played a significant role in my growth and ability to stay the course.
Advice for early-stage individuals: Cultivate determination, resilience, and a clear vision for what you want to achieve. Stay consistent in your efforts, taking small steps every day. Surround yourself with a supportive community and mentors. Most importantly, lean into your faith, as it can provide guidance, strength, and a sense of purpose throughout your journey. Remember that success often comes from perseverance and staying true to your vision, while relying on your faith for support and guidance.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was lead by example. As Christians, they didn’t just talk about their faith – they lived it out in their daily lives. Despite my father’s blindness and the challenges they faced, they demonstrated unwavering love and commitment to each other. Their 30-year marriage before my mother’s unexpected passing was a testament to the power of love and dedication.
I had the privilege of witnessing their deep love and the way they treated each other with respect and kindness. Their relationship was truly remarkable and left a lasting impression on me. It gave me every reason to strive for excellence, overcome obstacles, and pursue success in all areas of my life.
Their love and the values they exemplified created a nurturing environment that shaped who I am today. Their profound impact continues to inspire me to live a life of love, integrity, and purpose. I am grateful for the beautiful example they set and the love they shared, which has shaped my own journey in immeasurable ways.
