We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dara Beitler. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dara below.
Dara, thank you so much for making time for us today. We can’t wait to dive into your story and the lessons you’ve learned along the way, but maybe we can start with something foundational to your success. How have you gone about developing your ability to communicate effectively?
My design journey was one of passion- it was not linear or straightfoward. It is interesting how communication has always been a vital part of my passion, in fact, my initial career was a Speech Language Pathologist working over the years with pediatrics, educational teams and parents; followed by diagnosing and treating a variety of adult patients and communicating with medical care teams and caregivers in the acute care hospital setting. Still licensed and certified to practice, I now utilize my honed communication skills while designing, engaging, and developing relationships within the design industry.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am the principal and creative force behind Dara Beitler Interiors, LLC. There isn’t a design style that I haven’t fallen in love with. I combine a unique mix of design genres in each of my projects, with a keen eye and passion for everything design, I develop and create beautiful and eclectic spaces, while keeping in mind functionality and spatial awareness.
My personal style stems from my lifelong love of vintage furniture and decor, while also mixing modern and contemporary vibes with natural elements. My best friend, my muse, my grandmother, “Bubby,” who will be turning 95 this year, instilled this strong, fierce passion within me.
I am committed to high quality service and communication. When I am not designing (when is that?!), I am playing with my two adorable children, traveling with my husband, and spending time with friends and family.
Most recently, I helped create an organization throughout our design industry, Design Industry for Peace. Design Industry for Peace unites the design community in a collective, unwavering, unequivocal condemnation of terrorism and the atrocities that Hamas has committed in Israel. We dedicate ourselves to action for good. To use our skills in support of the health, safety, and wellness of impacted communities in and around Israel, for as long as this conflict ensues. To foster a community of compassion, creativity, and unwavering commitment. To a better future for all.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Intuition, communication, and creative energy.
It takes time, years in fact, to develop a strong sense of intuition AND the confidence to learn to FOLLOW your intuition. My intuition is so strong, I constantly use these senses to guide my business, channel my energy, my life.
Allow yourself to experiment- follow your creative mind. Life is not linear or straightfoward- and either are our brains. Go with it.
How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client is the one who values my energy, time and expertise. S(he) provides me with the information I need through extensive interviews, photos, and time together so that I can fully understand her/his vision(s). Following my dynamic design process, trusting and willingly allowing me to source, present and design the spaces with my clients’ families and best interests in mind really creates the most amazing outcomes.
