Meet Darcy Bly

We recently connected with Darcy Bly and have shared our conversation below.

Darcy, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
As a child I was raised on a Rainbow Trout Farm outside of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho surrounded by nearly 60,000 acres of natural pine forest. I watched my parents build a homestead, generate hydroelectricity, raise a family, and become entirely sufficient using their hands, blood, sweat and tears. I am sure this is where my work ethic comes from. I have been operating my own photo and video business since early 2017 and prior to that had other upstarts that I worked on.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’ve always been passionate about the creative process of shooting and editing short videos. I started making music videos with my friends on old camcorders back in the early 90s. Then I went to film school and graduated with a BA in Media. I always knew I had to work in something creative, that fueled my passions. I shot weddings for 6 years and have organically transitioning into shooting international lifestlye as well as large/small scale brands.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three biggest qualities that have guided me to where I am today has been fearlessness, passion, and a love for creating new things. I always say, “leap and the universe will throw you a net” so I leap into new projects and shoots without worrying if it will work out, because it always does.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
I love reading from some of the wise sages of days long gone. One of my favorites is Autobiography of a Yogi from the writings of Paramahansa Yogananda. He tells us that this is a dream life and we create our own reality. Nothing is permanent. To meditate each morning and to sit with the spine erect. So many wonderful life teachings in this book
