Meet Darcy Cudmore

We recently connected with Darcy Cudmore and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Darcy with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

I attribute my work ethic to my parents, who have been a constant source of inspiration throughout my life. Both of them started working at a grocery store as teenagers and, through sheer dedication and resilience, moved up the ranks to build remarkable careers. They are respected by coworkers, valued by customers, and admired by our family for their integrity, dependability, and ability to tackle challenges head-on.

Growing up, I watched them navigate long hours and demanding situations with unwavering commitment, always prioritizing doing the job right and treating others with respect. Even as I entered adulthood, their example continued to resonate with me. Their consistency and determination taught me the value of hard work and the rewards of perseverance.

I’ve modeled my own approach to work after their example. I strive to approach each day with their level of focus and integrity, and though I’m still working to meet the high standard they’ve set, I’m proud to carry forward their legacy. If I can be even half as hardworking and impactful as they are, I’ll consider that a success.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

My journey in public relations began with a journalism degree, followed by hands-on experience at a PR company in Toronto. Working there gave me invaluable insights into the industry, but I wanted to explore my own potential. So, I took the leap and started freelancing. As my client base grew, I branded my efforts as Darcy Allan PR, laying the foundation for what would become a thriving business.

Over time, I realized my passion and expertise lay in link building—a critical yet often overlooked aspect of digital marketing. This focus led to a rebranding as RepuLinks, where we’ve carved out a niche in securing high-quality organic backlinks. Today, we deliver over 200 backlinks per month (and growing) through a dedicated team of talented writers who share my commitment to excellence.

What sets us apart is our dedication to natural, high-quality backlinks. Too many businesses invest in spammy, low-value links that hurt more than help. At RepuLinks, we’re passionate about providing real value through ethical and impactful link-building strategies. My goal is to lead the industry in this space, helping clients achieve sustainable growth while maintaining the integrity of their digital presence.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. Grit

One of the most impactful qualities in my journey has been grit—the perseverance to do whatever it takes to achieve a goal. Whether it meant working late nights, adapting to unexpected challenges, or stepping out of my comfort zone, my determination has been my anchor. For those starting out, embrace the mindset that no task is beneath you, and every effort contributes to your larger vision. The willingness to push forward, even when the road is tough, separates those who dream from those who achieve. Success demands resilience and the courage to keep going, no matter what.

2. Willingness to Learn

The ability to learn continuously has been invaluable. From developing technical skills in link building to understanding client needs, I’ve always been open to evolving. Early in my career, I sought mentorship and stayed curious, treating every challenge as a learning opportunity. For those starting out, prioritize humility over perfection and commit to growth. Read widely, ask questions, and seek feedback. The willingness to learn not only helps you stay ahead but also builds confidence and credibility in your work.

3. Adaptability

The ability to adapt has been critical in navigating the ever-changing digital marketing landscape. Challenges like shifting industry trends or new client needs require flexibility and creative problem-solving. Early in my journey, I learned to pivot quickly and embrace change, turning obstacles into opportunities. For those starting out, focus on staying open-minded and adaptable. Cultivate problem-solving skills, and don’t shy away from revisiting your strategies. Success isn’t about sticking rigidly to one plan—it’s about evolving with the times while staying true to your goals.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

Over the past 12 months, my biggest area of growth has been learning to delegate effectively and embrace my role as a manager. For a long time, I found myself taking on too much—trying to oversee every detail and personally handle tasks that could have been entrusted to others. It wasn’t sustainable, and I realized I needed to shift my mindset to grow both personally and professionally.

By building trust in my team and empowering them to take ownership of their work, I’ve been able to step back and focus on the bigger picture—strategic planning, business development, and refining our services. This shift hasn’t just benefited me; it’s allowed my team to grow and take pride in their contributions.

Delegation has taught me that leadership is about guiding and supporting rather than doing everything myself. It’s a learning process, but I’ve come to see how much stronger we are as a team when everyone is given the space to excel. This change has been transformative for my business, and I’m excited to continue building a culture where trust and collaboration lead the way.
