Meet Dareel Sco

We were lucky to catch up with Dareel Sco recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Dareel , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience comes from the struggle I endured throughout my 20s where I was a father of two making little to no money.
I remember spending my last on diapers and formula over and over again.
Long and sleepless nights were frequent.
I rarely had time for myself or my girlfriend. I was in a state of depression.
As hard as it was to maintain my mind I vividly remember that my heart was always pointed towards a solution. I think that’s what saved me from really damaging myself or the people around me.
Since money was low, I decided to print my own music on cds and sell them.
Being a recording artists was fun until I actually focused on monetizing my art. With that extra income I was able to supply what my family needed. Everything was going great. We were able to rent a house for our family with our third child in the oven. Soon as I thought everything’s fine I was fired from my job unexpectedly.
That put me back at square one.
Since then, I’m now a Husband, an entrepreneur in entertainment and an employee at UPS.
I also own my place of residence.
I think that the hardships I went through are where I got my resilience from.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Throughout my years in music I was always confronted by other people’s perception of me. I didn’t feel accepted amongst my peers due to them not being familiar with someone like myself.
The problem is that I’m a rare individual that’s been through rare experiences. Those rare experiences inspired our entertainment and clothing brand LuvFirst The Movement LLC and here’s how.
I’m was born and raised in San Diego, California as an only child of two parents in the military.
Half way through my adolescence we moved to Yokosuka, Japan due to my mother being stationed on the USS KITTY HAWK naval carrier.
After three years in Japan we moved to Virginia Beach, VA where I went to Salem High School.
I graduated high school then I went to college at Virginia State University in Petersburg, VA.
Every time I moved to all of these different places I feel like no one actually had a chance to get to know me outside of their own understanding of who I was.
So I came up with a slogan that I would say in my music and at my live performances. That slogan was simply to Love First.
Later we changed the spelling to incorporate the letter U because our movement is about you.
Now everywhere I go people have no choice but to know who I am and what I’m about.
Today, our brand has expanded throughout the state of Virginia. Wearing LuvFirst is truly helping individuals stand out and feel appreciated by like-minded individuals looking for a way to instantly express their love and putting love first.
We’ve done fashion shows throughout the mid Atlantic as well as our southern border neighbor state North Carolina.
We are currently working with parents to help spread the word by sending their children to school in our apparel. We also are working along side some community organizations locally during vendor fairs and charity events.
Our next big event will be our 2nd annual fish fry / cornhole tournament held in Central Virginia.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Persistence, Purpose and Boldness.
No matter how bad it gets for folks to succeed in their journeys, they will need these three qualities.
You’re going to need persistence because you just have to keep going. You have to actually begin to train your mind and body that no matter what you must keep going. The way to feel comfortable keeping it going is to have a purpose for your journey. Having a purpose allows you to forget all the outside influences while remembering the reason for why you are on this journey.
Be bold in every way possible. Being a songwriter is difficult at times because you’re never sure what the audience will like or not. I’ve learned to be bold and make a statement with my music and apparel because I have a purpose. Be bold be proud and stay persistent and at the least, your journey will show it.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

My wife has been the most help in overcoming challenges because she and I are very close companions. She’s the mother of my children and does her best to keep me thinking forward while allowing me to be the free minded artist that I am.
