We recently connected with Dari Palkovic and have shared our conversation below.
Dari, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
I’d be taking all the credit for myself if I didn’t first acknowledge any and all generosity I have comes from God Elohim. Because of the love & sacrifice of God towards me, I have the heart to pay it back to others whenever I have an opportunity to do so.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a local hairstylist who’s continually working on building my business and always accepting new clients. I love to do highlights, balayage and haircuts on my clients. It’s all about maintenance. I teach my clients how to care for their hair at home and encourage them to stay on top of their appointments to keep their hair always looking its best.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
First, it was so important for me to take any opportunity for education in my field that I could. Whether it be online or in person, learning as much as possible has kept me confident in my craft and eager to grow.
Second, not being afraid to ask questions. If I was in a position to be around other stylist who were achieving success and who did beautiful work I asked lots of questions about their techniques and tips.
Third, of course is learning to fail! No one starts at the top! I’ve have a lot of experiences that have taught me to do better the next time, and helped me improve techniques again and again.
Any one who wants to learn how to be a phenomenal hair stylist should absolutely first intern, assist or find a business that will give you the education you need. It’s so important in those first years.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
Being overwhelmed is so normal in this industry! I have to remind myself that everything is temporary and every day is a gift from God. It’s important to acknowledge I’m just a speck of dust in this vast universe and what seems like a big obstacle is actually very small. Humility & prayer is important when feeling overwhelmed.
