We were lucky to catch up with Daria` Hammond recently and have shared our conversation below.
Daria`, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I believe the real question is: How am I overcoming “imposter syndrome?” I’ve come to realize that imposter syndrome is an ongoing thing for all of us. It tries to sneak up when you least expect it and can affect motherhood, marriage, your corporate job, business, and craft. I hate it! Imposter syndrome is like that ex who keeps texting you and won’t leave you alone when things are going well.
But I realized that knowing my identity and the “why” for why I am on this earth helps me to face it. A huge part of my purpose is helping others in mental health and wellbeing. I’ve seen so many creatives struggle and live a life of “lack,” which includes myself. I’m not trying to be a superhero, but if I were to let imposter syndrome win, lives could be lost. Countless individuals are out there depending on my story, my voice, and my confidence. This is the unwavering drive I need to stand tall against imposter syndrome.
It’s funny because usually whatever you are called to fix you may struggle with yourself. Hence why imposter syndrome is my thorn. It’s a huge stigma for mental health but making sure that I am planted in my identity and surrounded by others who pour into that identity as well.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Daria` Hammond (pronounced Dare-ree-aye) and I am an artist, muralist, arts and wellness facilitator, and the founder of Be Hue. I’ve worked in an Arts in Healthcare environment for 5 years, which has greatly impacted my studio and me. Arts in health has pivoted my work to purposeful services that enhance individual well-being and community health. Outside of murals, those services include community murals, mentorship, creative wellness workshops, and more.
Since 2020, I have created large-scale murals using muted but vibrant colors to soften and convey positive messages. I juxtapose symbolism with character work to ignite conversation and change perspectives on how we think, act, and feel in everyday life. From prints to originals and murals, my work centers around faith, healing, and wholesomeness.
I am also the founder of Be Hue, a passion project that uses art to spark dialogue about mental health stigmas in artistic communities. I’ve had the opportunity to partner with amazing artists and poets who are mentors and community leaders in the realm of arts and wellness to make a change in the Huntsville community. Many romanticize the work of the artist but don’t tend to think about the hard journeys or creative roadblocks artists encounter daily. we aren’t considered as therapy but Be Hue is the answer and safe space for artists who struggle with their mental health.
Before any of these titles, I am a mom and wife first! My family has always been my first and main ministry!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
My heart for others’ success
My passion
My drive to learn and become better
Sometimes I see myself as a “midwife”. I love to help others and make sure that my friends and partners are succeeding along with me. Tip one is to know that our journey is not just about you. We are here on this earth to help others along the way. Live a selfless and generous life, knowing that that is the only way to the top. Otherwise, the top will be very lonely.
You have to start with a passion. I see creatives always doing something only for the money. Don’t build your practice or purpose on how it can benefit you financially in the first stage. That means you have a faulty foundation. Start with what you have a passion for and build on a solid foundation.
Tip 3, always strive to become better and invest in yourself. You’re worth it! If you have to take a class, have 5 mentors, or pay $1000 to make sure you know how to run a business DO IT. Knowledge is key, and no one can take that away from you.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes! I am searching for all potential partners, sponsors, and collaborators! Be Hue is actively seeking individuals and organizations who are passionate about promoting individual and community health, especially within the artistic community. If you want to support artists who are making a real difference in their community, then we want to hear from you. Together, we can organize community paint days, wellness workshops, and artist talks that are led by wonderful creatives and ignite conversations about mental health and personal journeys. These initiatives are designed to engage the public, drive discussions on mental health, and provide artists with a meaningful sense of purpose through community involvement.
At Be Hue, our mission is to empower artists to Be Well and Do Good. We are committed to providing resources that nurture artists’ spiritual, physical, and mental well-being, while also inspiring them to make a lasting impact. Join us as we unite a diverse collective of musicians, writers, poets, and visual artists who are fearlessly embracing vulnerability, pursuing wholeness, and are eager to drive positive change in the world. I would love to make a difference together.
