Meet Darie J

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Darie J. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Darie below.

Darie, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

Throughout my career, I have often found myself being the only person in the room who looks like me. This unique position has taught me the importance of confidence, adaptability, and effective communication. By embracing my differences, I have learned to bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to the table, ultimately contributing to my success in diverse environments.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Hi I’m Darie J.
I’m a Master Hairstylist and Cosmetology Educator!
As a passionate and dedicated cosmetologist, my career has been driven by a desire to empower individuals through beauty and style. I’ve had the privilege of working on high-profile events such as Fashion Week shows and The Baltimore Met Gala, where I’ve honed my skills and developed a keen eye for detail.
What excites me most about my profession is the ability to transform people’s confidence and self-expression through hair, makeup and education!
I believe that beauty is a powerful tool for self-love and empowerment, and I am committed to sharing my knowledge and expertise with others.
In my current work, I focus on teaching cosmetology classes and workshops, equipping aspiring professionals with the skills and techniques they need to succeed in this ever-evolving industry. It’s incredibly rewarding to watch my students grow and flourish as they pursue their passions.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back at my career, I’ve found that adaptability, effective communication, and continuous learning have been the most impactful qualities in my journey. Being able to adapt to new trends, technologies, and environments has allowed me to stay relevant and successful in a constantly evolving industry. Clear and effective communication has been crucial in understanding clients’ needs and collaborating with fellow professionals. Lastly, a commitment to continuous learning has enabled me to hone my skills and keep up with the latest techniques and innovations.
For those just starting their journey, I would advise actively seeking out opportunities to develop these qualities. Embrace change, practice active listening and clear communication, and continuously invest in your education and skill set. By prioritizing these areas, you will be well-equipped to navigate the challenges and seize the opportunities that lie ahead.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

As I continue to grow and evolve as a professional, I’m eager to collaborate with like-minded creative individuals who share my passion for beauty, innovation, and empowerment. I’m particularly interested in partnering with professionals in the fields of photography, fashion design, and event planning, as I believe these synergies can lead to exciting and impactful projects.
If you’re reading this interview and feel that our visions align, I would be delighted to connect with you and explore the possibilities for collaboration. Please feel free to reach out to me via my email
