Meet Darku Jarmola

We recently connected with Darku Jarmola and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Darku with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

I guess I’d say it comes from the constant need to be creating. If I’m out somewhere all I can think about is when can I get back to writing. when I’m trying to go to sleep for the night all I can think of if what ideas I could try out the next day in the studio, I recently switched to a laptop so when I travel or get coffee I didn’t have to stop creating. after this interview I’m going straight to a studio haha. idk a love for the art I guess

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I make moody house music. I’ve been DJing for over 20 years, been writing music even longer. I have a new EP on the way on a 7″ vinyl that I’m super excited to get out there and have just started working on a new album.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

It’s been quite a journey already and I still feel like I’m just in the boarding area of my career. I would say a drive to work on this project every single day even when I don’t feel up to it is whats helped me push further and further. You’re gonna have to suck at whatever you do before you can even get ok at it but that’s part of the journey right? You don’t just achieve success and then stop right? you keep pushing to be better, faster, more.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?

Work Clean by Dan Charnas. Dan also wrote the Dilla book which I suggest reading but Work Clean really helped me in getting all my shit in order.
