We recently connected with Darrian Ware and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Darrian, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
It’s funny because at first I never thought about becoming a musician let alone playing some type of instrument. Playing the guitar has opened many doors and taken me places I never thought I would be. I realized this was my purpose when I was playing for a church near my college campus, and I was approached by one of the members of the church who said I sounded amazing, and that they wanted me to teach their son. I enjoyed playing so much that the thought of helping someone never really crossed my mind. It made me feel honored that someone valued my talents enough that it inspired me to dedicate my efforts into improving everyday to be an outstanding musician. I’ve been playing guitar for 14 years, and have come across awesome individuals whether they are artists or people who just want to learn how to play the guitar, the fact that they trust in my abilities reminds me everyday that this is what I was set out to do.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Darrian Ware also known as Soulchild by my peers, and I play lead/rhythm guitar residing in Atlanta, Ga. I’ve been playing guitar for 14 years, and the experience has been nothing short of exciting. Currently I play lead guitar for The After Party Experience, blues artist Cruz the Dame, and AB and Groove Therapy. Playing with the individuals in each of these bands is an amazing experience. The awesome thing about performing with other professionals like myself is you never stop learning new things. Among many things I learned from other musicians, discipline is stressed a lot, and it’s because of that I have been blessed with opportunities not just to perform locally, but outside the city, and abroad. I don’t take every opportunity for granted, it’s truly amazing, and I pray it continues.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Discipline, Passion, and the knowledge from past experiences has helped me think about playing music assigned to me efficiently. I would say these are qualities that have impacted me on my journey to musicianship. I believe these are among many of the qualities one needs in order to be successful in developing there skills. My advice for those who are striving to become a guitarist or any musician for that matter is to be patient with yourself and remain discipline. People ask me if learning the guitar is difficult, and to be honest it wasn’t easy. Surround yourself around a community of like minded individuals who share your common interests. Opening up to the idea of possibilities can go a long way, and in my opinion can lead to good practice habits. I have no doubt that these things have helped me in both developing and improving in my craft, and I am certain that they will help the next man or woman in their journey.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was investing in my abilities. I can’t thank them enough for believing in me, and showing their support sharing words of inspiration. I am forever grateful and every time I take my guitar on the go I don’t take it for granted.
