Meet Darronnette Curtis

We were lucky to catch up with Darronnette Curtis recently and have shared our conversation below.

Darronnette, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
This is a great question! I attribute my resilience to a combination of self-regulation, growth, and life experiences both personal and professional. As I’ve matured and navigated life, it’s become easier to; regulate thoughts and emotions and be able to express them in efficient ways. view challenges as learning opportunities as opposed to obstacles or failures, and focus on what is within my control versus what is not. A huge bonus is to also have a positive prospective.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Hi, everyone! My name is Darronnette Curtis, CEO of LXVE MXFFIN, entrepreneur, and multi-creative. I love makeup, videography, and sweet treats, which is probably why our products have names like Strawberry Tart and Berry Sherbae. These passions inspired me to create a brand that was bright, engaging, and full of endless possibilities.

LXVE MXFFIN is a fun and inclusive cosmetics brand launched in 2020. Our products are vegan, cruelty free, and paraben free, always keeping clean beauty in mind. Our signature product is our smudge-proof matte liquid lipstick. We have eighteen (18) shades ranging from soft nudes to daring bolds. We also have six (6) high shine lip glosses that are perfect to wear alone or as toppers to our lipsticks.

We especially love utilizing our platform to support others through features and collaboration. We’re currently preparing for our annual MXFFIN MAN Contest, a fun, flirty competition for men. Its purpose is to showcase talent, engage the community, and promote inclusive spaces within the beauty and fashion industries. The contest is size and age inclusive for men 18 years and older. Prizes include the “MXFFIN MAN” title, spotlight in a yearly calendar, feature(s) in future brand campaigns and more from participating sponsors. Contest sign-up opens soon. It’s so exciting!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Authenticity, empathy and critical thinking have been three of the most impactful qualities of my journey both personally and professionally. Showing up as my authentic self has always put me in a position to thrive. It takes too much work to keep up a facade. Be true to yourself always. Additionally, being able to relate to others’ thoughts and feelings has allowed me to build and nurture many lasting relationships in business and beyond. The late Maya Angelou once said. “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forgot how you made them feel.” People will always go out of their way for someone who made them feel good, and vice versa.
Lastly, critical thinking will always be an essential skill. Analyzing information to form rational thoughts, ask questions, and apply solutions is how we evolve. Practice this as often as you can.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho is THE single most impactful book of my life. There are so many nuggets of wisdom hidden in plain sight. I have read this book probably ten (10) times over the years and I STILL take something away from it with each read. I actually have multiple copies of it with various notes, highlights, and page markers. It is a fairly simple read but has done so much for me.

I love this book because it reminds me to stay on MY course and recognize omens along the journey, life has unexpected turns and success is not always linear, and also to believe in my own strengths and capabilities. Its wisdom reveals itself when needed most. One of it’s most famous statements “and, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it” continues to inspire me.
