Meet Darryl Cohen

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Darryl Cohen a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Darryl, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
Practice breath work and take cold showers. The breath work helps shift my nervous system from flight or fight to rest and digest so I’m able to stay clam during the cold shower. The cold shower helps me mentally prepare for how to push through any uncomfortable situation that may arise during the day. I find that the combination helps me stay grounded and able to reevaluate any situation so I can be the most effective for whatever unexpected opportunity presents itself.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
After discovering that I had a dysfunctional relationship with food that needed to be repaired, I found that my purpose was to help others overcome the same obstacle that so many of us seem to struggle with. My perspective of a balanced nutritional lifestyle incorporates three pillars: science, psychology and spirituality. I recently partnered with CBH Energetics to provide bioenergetic dietary testing that shows resonating food sensitivities and nutrient deficiencies which allows a custom approach for each individual. Cognitive therapy techniques are used throughout coaching to focus on repairing the relationship with food. This multi-faceted approach has helped others achieve the lasting physical and spiritual transformation they themselves know they’re capable of.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Tough love, self acceptance and adaptability. Try perceiving challenges as opportunities, and becoming comfortable with being uncomfortable. Give yourself grace and be open hearted and open minded when it comes to your experiences and thoughts. When it comes to success, the only wrong action is inaction. From that perspective, the more you invest in your journey the more rewarding it is going to be.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
Anyone who feels like they’ve tried everything when it comes to nutrition, but hasn’t found anything that works for them long-term.
