Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Daryl Sandak. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Daryl, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
This is a hard hitting question. Resiliency is the skill I am most proud of. It’s amazing what you can accomplish when you are faced with no other option.
I almost lost my business, twice.
The first time was due to my own financial mismanagement. I overbought, I went on gut feelings rather than facts. Ignored the essential numbers of my business because deep down, I knew I wasn’t going to like what I saw. I was overspending on what I wanted the business to be, not where my business was. I was in so deep that I wanted to give up and just accept the failure.
The second time, a major, national retailer completely defaulted on their bills. I was stuck having fronted the costs of the production and having my inventory held captive in their stores. Again, I was faced with almost throwing in the towel.
I have a young, special needs son who is going to face inherent adversity in his life. What kind of example would I be setting if I were to give up? I needed to show him that you can move through challenges. The lessons learned from setbacks compound over time.
I’m proud to report 2023 is our best year ever!
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am the founder of Sandak Fine Jewelry a B2C fine jewelry company that creates modern, best in category jewelry pieces.
With over 15 years of experience in the jewelry industry, I quickly became the go-to expert for those seeking advice on selecting the perfect diamond.Sandak was born out of a passion for helping friends and family navigate the complex world of engagement ring purchases, my journey into the world of fine jewelry began as a labor of love.
The spark for my own jewelry brand ignited when I realized that the market lacked pieces that seamlessly blended style and versatility. My vision was clear: to create jewelry that could be mixed, matched, and stacked effortlessly, reflecting the unique personality and taste of each individual wearer.
Jewelry wise I am very excited to continue exploring new technology advancements in the lab grown diamond space and 3D gold printing!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Resilency: Learn from your mistakes, bounceback.
Public speaking: If you have a fear, utilize your resources to overcome it. This skill is critical.
Humor: Making people laugh makes business much more enjoyable.
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
Currently, I am fielding more showroom requests then I can accommodate. I am weighing strategic retail partners so my customers have physical touch points with our pieces.
