Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dashana Sabal. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dashana, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Truthfully I haven’t fully overcome imposter syndrome I still ask myself “why me” because you can’t help but to look around you and compare. But how I get through it is remind myself that I deserve to be here and I work hard to be here in this space.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Well for the past 10 years I wanted to start creating content but it was just never the best time for me. So this past year with tremendous support from my partner and my best friend I decided to go ahead and start creating my content. In the beginning, it was a little rough, but eventually, I started learning more techniques , learning how to edit l, learning how to do reviews properly and researching more brands that I didn’t know about previously, but was introduced to by other fellow content creators. Also, During this journey of creating my Brand and my content I have connected with a few beauty creators with Similar stories as me and we support each other, which motivates me to keep pushing through. My goal is to build up my brand and repertoire with my following so I can later launch my very own beauty brand.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would say some skills and knowledge that I previously had before starting my journey would be years and years of practicing my make up watching other creators on YouTube and doing their make up, teaching technique learning about undertones and learning about blending and what makeup tools to use and also skin care and how to take care of my skin after removing my makeup. my advice for anybody starting their content journey I will say keep going, keep pushing. it might sound generic but honestly, there are days where I did not wanna post and I picked myself up or my fiancé would motivate me to at least do one look and then that video would be the one that gets the most attention and open up door for me that I didn’t believe I could get in. Lastly I would say make your own path do things YOUR way, have your own style , and it might not seem like it, but the beauty community is not oversaturated. You might think you might not be able to walk into rooms That your favorite creators has walked into and you would be surprised at who is watching.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Oh absolutely, I am always looking for collaborations. As far as brands I would love to collaborate with Thread Beauty , One Size ,LYS Beauty and a lot more. As far as creators that I would love to Collab with Luis (@ luisdelmar9) , Ashlee (@ ashleencookk) , Marki(@ markimayhemm ) and Sirena (@ sirenaangelique) I think these creators are incredible. Their content is amazing and they are truthfully beautiful souls and I would love the opportunity to work with them. If any of them or any brands want to reach out to me Please reach out via DM on Instagram (dash_of_beauty22) Also my email [email protected].
