Meet Dave ‘Champ’ Moore

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dave ‘Champ’ Moore a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Dave ‘Champ’, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
My generosity comes from someone very special in my life, my mother. It goes back to the days as a kid when she told me to respect everyone and treat them the way I would like to be treated. As I got older, I learned a few more words from her. Forgiveness and love. My Mom is such an open loving person and treats everyone so well, from her family, siblings, neighbors, strangers with an abundance of love. It’s what I’ve seen passed down to me and what I’ve learned is never to burn any bridges, even if something goes south and not the way you expected, don’t leave anything damaged beyond repairing. Life is too short for that. The spectacular thing is because I’ve kept my ways with this approach, things have come back around for me in my life that bring me different and more opportunities all from remaining kind to people and keeping my name in good gossip. You never know what or who can come from some things and how they can come back to play a role in your life.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Dave ‘Champ’ Moore is a Cincinnati-native who came to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of acting. After he booked his first project, he began working steadily in commercials, tv shows and other media projects. He also expresses his creativity with his writing, as he is a 2x published author, and a podcast host for ‘Keepin’ It 1000. In his spare time he organizes non-profits and charity events for the Special Olympics and the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three most important qualities. Let’s see, there are a lot but if I must narrow it down, I’d say, self-awareness, courage, and integrity.

I say self-awareness is #1 because you literally have to be aware of what’s going on around you. If you are uncertain of things, how can those who stand with you be certain? You have to take accountability and lead by example. You also have to be relatable and approachable, and what I mean is knowing when maybe you don’t have the best idea, or maybe someone that is working with you is having a bad day. You have to be able to push your ego to the side and have empathy toward those on the same path and journey as you trying to hit the finish line.

Courage is huge because you must have it in order to obtain any goal. It’s confidence and a drive to complete a task even when it doesn’t seem attainable. With whatever it is you are doing, it takes courage to take a leap to do it. Think about that, if you didn’t have courage, you wouldn’t be working toward anything right now!

Integrity, that can be everything. You have to be honest with yourself and those around you. Everything is built off of trust, and if you don’t have that trust, you don’t have anything at all. So once again, hold yourself and your team accountable from all aspects.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
I believe the biggest obstacle and challenge I’m currently facing is when you feel stagnant. It’s not always such a bad thing, even though this world and society has taught us about being fast paced, and wanting instant gratification. Sometimes, when I’m not as busy on some days, I feel like I am missing out on opportunities or I’m not doing enough for myself.

The way I’m defeating this, is remembering that rest is important, but another is that you are still moving forward even if you are not in the driver seat. If you are riding with someone, you are sitting in the car (stagnant) but the car’s motion is still forward, meaning you are still heading toward your destination. I teach and remind myself because if I was always busy, and gave myself no time to enjoy anything, I would never celebrate any of my victories, big or small. The victories are what makes us continue to go!
