We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dave “champ” Moore a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dave “Champ”, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic is deeply rooted in my upbringing in Cincinnati, where the formative years of my childhood and early adulthood were profoundly shaped by my experience in football. I graduated from Colerain High School, an institution renowned for its commitment to excellence and teamwork. The camaraderie fostered among my teammates—both on and off the field—instilled in me a steadfast determination to give my utmost in every endeavor. This unwavering dedication has become a hallmark of my character, driving me to contribute fully to any task at hand. I am immensely grateful for the values imparted by this program, as it not only cultivated my sense of responsibility but also taught me the importance of accountability, resilience, and the essence of true character.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am an individual who thrives on harnessing my creativity. I operate a small business called “Moore Four Moore,” a clever play on my name that signifies an abundance of possibilities and inspirations all around us. Our primary focus is organizing cornhole events that raise funds for cancer associations, combining community engagement with philanthropy.
In addition to this, we are venturing into the realm of entertainment and media production. Currently, we host a podcast titled “Keepin’ It 1000,” which shares spiritual and uplifting messages aimed at inspiring our audience. Our ultimate goal is to cultivate a dynamic legacy that spans various fields of creative expression, uniting passion with purpose as we strive to build a multifaceted dynasty.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three enduring principles have shaped my outlook, and I would wholeheartedly pass them down to the next generation. First, embrace your authentic self unapologetically. Ultimately, opinions may vary—some will appreciate you while others may not—but what truly matters is your own perception of yourself.
Second, prioritize the elevation of those around you. Cultivating a strong community is essential; your connections form your village, and fostering these relationships enriches both your life and the lives of others.
Lastly, practice kindness. The impact of genuine kindness resonates deeply; people will always remember how you made them feel. In the grand scheme of things, this sentiment speaks louder than anything else.
If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
The challenge I’m currently grappling with is learning to slow down at times. While keeping my hands in multiple projects provides a satisfying sense of busyness, it can often serve as a distraction, causing me to overlook important details and moments. I realize that I need to be more mindful about not stretching myself too thin. This journey is a work in progress, and I’ve come to appreciate the truth in the saying “less is more.” Embracing this principle may ultimately lead to greater clarity and fulfillment in both my personal and professional life.
