We were lucky to catch up with David Bianchi recently and have shared our conversation below.
David, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I have always had a purpose and a desire to be great. Throughout my life, I have had several ventures in my entrepreneurship but I’ve always had the knack to be an actor. I began performing at a very early age, but not until my mid-20s did I decide to pursue acting as a professional career. I found my purpose through that, and through my deep desire to be great and to succeed at a high level. So, whether I was an actor or an architect, my purpose would be just as intense because purpose is an inside job. It’s not something that you find; It’s something that finds you.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Over the years I have produced 6 feature films and more short films that I can count. I have always produced things that I act in. Now I am the creator, co-writer, executive producer and starring actor of the new 8-episode series RZR. That just released on a new streaming platform called Gala Film. RZR is currently in the running for a Prime Time Emmy® for “Outstanding Short Form Comedy or Drama” This project is the culmination of 20 years of producing. It stars an incredible cast, including Mena Suvari, Danny Trejo, Emilio Rivera and Richard Cabral. I’m working to build a legacy that will stand the test of time and be a bold part of the artistic conversation. I’ve done gallery exhibits for my fine art and I have spoken on stages all over the world, in front of thousands. As well as spent 17 years of my life producing Spinema™ films blending my roles as director, producer, writer, performer, and poet. at the core of it, they’re experimental films that are told entirely in poetry that are socially conscious.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Understanding multiple languages has definitely come in handy for me. Not just in the art of communication, but in my ability as an actor. Another important quality is my desire to be an entrepreneur. Most actors and artists fail to realize that entrepreneurship is the foundation of being a successful artist, and if you’re not interested in being a business person, you likely will not succeed as an artist because, in today’s world, they are intertwined every step of the way. Thirdly, I would say, my upbeat personality makes it easy for me to network, connect, and approach people.
As for folks who are just starting out in the industry, my best advice would be to work hard at failing. Create regardless. The only obstacles in your path are mostly created by you. Stay out of your own way. Understand that ‘no’ is the best word you can hear because it forces you to move in a different direction. Nothing is personal. Everybody’s perception of you has nothing to do with how you identify. Work furiously, but do it with tact. Care about your brand. Find your voice and a tribe of people ready to create with you at your level. Have conviction. Make a decision, even if it’s the wrong one—make a decision and never wait. The clock is always ticking. There is always something to do. And have fun along the way.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents stood up for me and believed in me every step of the way, even when I didn’t believe in myself. I was a troubled kid and was expelled from several schools, so throughout my teens, I found myself in handcuffs. Many times. Regardless of how badly I behaved, and the horrible decisions that I made for myself, they never threw me out. They never stopped being loving parents. They never stopped being a consistent safety net for me because they believed in me. They went through hell and back to keep me alive. I’m blessed by my mother and father. They are the light that keeps me going.
