We recently connected with David Cholak and have shared our conversation below.
David , so glad you were able to set aside some time for us today. We’ve always admired not just your journey and success, but also the seemingly high levels of self-discipline that you seem to have mastered and so maybe we can start by chatting about how you developed it or where it comes from?
My self-discipline comes from being raised in an environment where hard work wasn’t optional. Growing up in a family floral business taught me that you can’t procrastinate when people depend on you and when the work has to get done before the sun even comes up.
Being in that routine early on made discipline feel natural. I learned to be adaptable, consistent, and focused. Over time, that turned into a mindset I carry into everything; running events, meeting with clients, and building the business.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I run a floral design business that originally began with my mom in the early 2000s, and today I’ve taken that foundation and grown it into a full-service company specializing in weddings and large-scale events. What drives me is combining creativity, vision, and the work ethic I learned early on to bring people’s moments to life in a way that feels personal and memorable.
What makes this work special is the emotional impact it has. Flowers can completely shift the atmosphere of a space, and seeing clients react to a room we’ve transformed—sometimes even to the point of tears—is something I never take for granted. We put intention into every detail, and I’m proud that people describe our work as creating “magic.” Going above and beyond isn’t a strategy for us, it’s just how we operate.
Right now, I’m focused on continuing to grow the brand, especially through modern marketing and expanding our reach on social media. We have exciting events and weddings coming up, and a big priority is elevating the client experience at every level. My aim is to keep building something that inspires people, honors the roots of the business, and keeps evolving creatively.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities that shaped my journey the most were adaptability, work ethic, and creative vision. Growing up in a family floral business taught me early on that things rarely go exactly as planned, so being able to adjust on the fly became second nature. Pair that with the work ethic I learned from those early mornings helping my mom, and it created a strong foundation for everything I do. Vision ties it all together being able to see what a space can become and bringing that idea to life is what makes the work meaningful and keeps me pushing forward.
For anyone early in their journey, the best way to grow these qualities is through consistency and curiosity. Embrace challenges instead of avoiding them, because every setback teaches you something that makes you more adaptable. Build discipline by showing up even when it’s inconvenient, and let inspiration come from studying your craft, experimenting, and finding your own style. Developing these skills takes time, but they become the core tools that allow you to build a career with purpose and confidence.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed, I try to slow things down and focus on what I can control in the moment. In an industry where timelines, details, and unexpected changes are constant, breaking everything into smaller steps helps me reset. Stepping back for a minute, breathing, and re-centering myself allows me to come back with a clearer mindset instead of adding more chaos to an already stressful moment.
My advice for others is to prioritize intentionally and not let urgency dictate everything. Focus on what truly matters, delegate when you can, and don’t hesitate to lean on your support system. Overwhelm usually comes from trying to carry everything alone. Staying connected to your vision and remembering why you started can make the tough moments feel manageable and keep you moving forward with purpose.
