Meet David Johnson

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful David Johnson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

David, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I got my work ethic from growing up poor an learning if you want anything then you need to get it for yourself. As a kid I baby sat, shoveled snow, cut grass, rake leaves, ran for grocery’s and anything else I could figure out on how to make a dollar. When you grow up poor there is no running to Mom for a quarter for the ice cream man, or wanting to get a soda, etc… If you wanted it figure out a way to pay for it. And I did! I figured out by working hard and figuring out things that people will pay you to do for them you could make cash and starting doing for yourself an not relying on someone else to get it for you. It instill the will to be successful and keep trying no matter what!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am semi-retired and now own and operate a premier and unique hearse service in Las Vegas Nevada. With our Harley Davidson Trike, H2 Hummer or Bentley pulled Coaches we can transport a casket or urn to the final resting place in style! We are not just for motorcycle people; we are for everyone looking to provide their loved one something different from the standard hearse taking them that Last Mile. I feel this is an important service we provide as it helps the family and friends have a very memorable final goodbye watching their loved one take their last ride in a unique coach. From the photos we display of their loved ones to their favorite music we play during the ride. We travel all over the Southwestern United States with the motorcycle hearse providing familes with a memorable way of taking their loved ones that Last Mile to their final resting place. We are foucused on continuing to grow this business and provide whomever wants this premier service to experience the best Last Mile for their loved ones that is available today!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Tranportation, Knowledge of Logisitics and Customer Service are all skills you need for the type of business we operate. Going to school/class/seminars on the various demands of what it takes to operate a business is key to being successful.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
The number one challege we face is still getting the word out on what we do. We are in direct competition with the funeral homes however none of them have what we have. So getting the word out that we exist an what we offer is hard. We do limited advertising, social networking, etc… but most of the time when people finally see us they tell us they had no idea we existed. So we are relooking at how we market ourselves and trying to improve on that effort.
