Meet David Witherspoon

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful David Witherspoon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with David below.

David, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
By understanding the journey that I traveled. Each past journey was a lesson learn and an experience that you will have the rest of your life. I gathered all of my trials and tribulations to form a unique purpose just for me. David “The Giant Slayer”. I allow my past to mold me into the person I am today with the help of the all mighty God.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Inheriting a similar background as his parents who have a strong work ethic and a deep relationship with God, Witherspoon continues to live a life of accomplishments and social interactions not only in his hometown of Sumter, SC, but also throughout his travels.  In fact, he received “Professional of the Year Award” on behalf of Silver Spoon Event Center, from the Sumter Black Chamber of Commerce during its 6/19/2021 Juneteenth gala.

Beginning with an Associate degree in Computer Technology from Central Carolina in 2003, to a Business and Organizational Management degree from one of South Carolina’s HBCUs, Morris College, also in 2003, and finally an MBA from Webster University at Shaw Air Force Base, SC, in 2005.

Not ready to stop the accomplishment momentum, as a LEAN/Quality Manager with Eaton Corporation from 2000-2010, Masco Cabinetry International from 2010-2015, and Isola Cooperation from 2016-2018, Witherspoon advised companies on ways to improve their efficiency and on cost savings.  Eventually, he received an Achievement Certificate from Eaton Lean System Train-the-Trainer Program.

Witherspoon also served as a Business Professor for South College/AB Tech, 2009-2011. From 2015-2018, he became a Personal Trainer to help clients achieve their healthy and personal goals, as Owner of MUV Fitness/LEAN Bootcamp.

By 2/2019, he transformed his social skills of helping people achieve their goals into a lifetime endeavor of making a difference in the lives of others. This time, Witherspoon and his wife Sheryl founded Silver Spoon Event Center, which blossomed into other business units.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Reflecting on his parents’ strong work ethic and customer service focus, he explained the rationale for his business name, Silver Spoon:

“Even if you were not born with a silver spoon in your mouth, we believe you deserve to be treated like you were.”

Thereafter, he added another business unit to his growing portfolio: Silver Spoon Property Management, which encompasses managing houses, duplexes, apartments, etc.

Married to lovely Sheryl Witherspoon, they both have two beautiful daughters, Dana and Davia. He plays golf, Fantasy Sports, loves to dance and to problem solve

What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
