Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to David Woodruff. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
David, so happy to have you with us today. You are such a creative person, but have you ever had any sort of creativity block along the way? If so, can you talk to us about how you overcame or beat it?
I keep a wide array of creative projects going at any given time. If one seems to slow down or I feel blocked creatively, I allow myself to set it aside and work on one of the other things until my interest is resparked. I guess I’d call it a type of compartmentalization.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’ve always been interested in the film industry and story telling in general. I was lucky enough to have a parent in the business doing creature effects and started down that road. That side of the industry didn’t really quite scratch the story telling itch as I realized when I started doing my own character recreation projects. In producing my own shoots, I really enjoyed the whole overall process and have since focused on creating more of my own projects.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think the top three things that have been the most impactful for me are communication, commitment, and a drive to be better. The things I like doing and that I’m trying to continue doing require a large amount of collaboration so solid communication is key! I’ve found I’m committed to what I’m doing. There are a lot of people that could be doing these things that tend to flake out and a whole project can fall apart as a result. I always try to do better with each project, otherwise why do it in the first place? There is always something to learn from every new experience and those lessons will carry on to the next experience.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
The industry I’ve been working in since I can remember is experiencing a major shift. The entire playbook is changing and there’s little to no idea as to where it will wind up. Currently, I’m doing my best to navigate this and working on my own projects on the side to hopefully have something to show when things hopefully level out.
