Meet Davonté Burse

Hi Davonté, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Probably from watching my mom work hard all my life and even still today. She’s always had such a strong work ethic, largely because she had my younger sister and I to raise. That’s one of many things I admire about her. Aside from that, I’ve always had an ambitious spirit and drive. I care so much about my future, my goals and the success I want in my life. I want to see my passions and dreams manifest beyond what I ever could imagine. That takes a certain work ethic.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
2018-2019 was the start of my acting journey. I was acting on stage in local musical theatre productions before making my switch to television & film in 2021. It’s been a great couple years for me in this career path. I’ve learned so much and grown as a person and in my craft. There’s been many things accomplished, goals reached, roles booked & more to come. I currently have a film that I am apart of in post production. This is my first supporting lead in a feature. It’s an action horror set during the civil war. I’m excited for people to see it and I can’t wait for updates. It’s going to be a good & interesting watch.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
3 qualities that have been most impactful in my journey have been passion, drive and faith which is a quality of trust and belief. Advice that I would give to others who are early on in their journey (no matter what that journey may be) is to get as grounded as possible, ask why and know your why. Affirm yourself and declare the things you want. Lastly, enjoy and embrace the journey. All of it’s highs, lows, victories and struggles.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
I would say self. Learning who I am and who I am not, establish that and staying true to that. It’s important to know who you are in this industry. I’ve been in therapy unpacking things, learning new things about myself and realizing things maybe I hadn’t before. I’m loving more on myself and i’m giving myself permission to be vulnerable. These things are improving my craft. Art imitates life and life imitates art.
