Meet Dawanna Gregg

We recently connected with Dawanna Gregg and have shared our conversation below.

Dawanna, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

Honestly, I think my purpose found me.

I’ve always had a thing for numbers and finance — math came naturally to me growing up. I still remember being the only student in my freshman algebra class to score a 100% on the final. My teacher said it had never happened in his 20+ years of teaching at the time, and it never happened again up till he retired. That stuck with me. I didn’t fully understand it then, but looking back, that was one of my earliest signs.

Over the years, I tried entrepreneurship a few times. I dabbled in things I liked, but it never felt like the right fit. I started questioning whether this path was even meant for me. I always believed I had it in me to work for myself — to build something that’s my own— but nothing I tried really clicked.

Taxes had always been in the back of my mind, though. In 2023, I finally gave it a shot. I caught on quick. I started to genuinely enjoy it. That spark I hadn’t felt in those other ventures — I felt it here.

Credit repair was another full-circle moment. I tried it once back in 2017, but it didn’t go far. Still, people kept asking me about it, like the universe was nudging me not to quit completely. I tried again in 2023, but soon after, I got pregnant — and between the exhaustion and losing motivation, I just couldn’t focus.

Fast forward to postpartum — then life happened real fast. Shortly after having my baby, I was put in a situation where I had no choice but to go full throttle for my family. No time to think. No time to second guess. I HAD to step into my purpose because survival demanded it.

I went all in. I started building my tax business, picked credit repair back up, and started moving with a whole new sense of purpose. I wasn’t just doing this to make money — I was doing it because I needed to. I had to figure it out.

Now, I’m in alignment and things are moving fast. Helping people, teaching them, using my gift for numbers — this is definitely where I’m supposed to be and I’m just getting started. It didn’t happen overnight, and it definitely didn’t happen on the first try. But everything I went through led me here — to purpose, to passion, and to building a life that’s been waiting for me all this time.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am the owner of D. Gregg Financial $olutions, LLC, where I my services include personal and business tax preparation, credit repair, and helping people get their finances in order. I’m still in the earlier stages of building my brand, but I’ve already seen the impact my work can have — and that’s what keeps me going. It’s not just about dollars for me, it’s about helping people feel less stressed and more in control of their money and credit.

One of the most exciting parts of what I do is watching that shift happen — when a client finally sees their credit score go up, gets approved for something they’ve been denied for in the past, or realizes they can actually qualify to buy a home or start a business. That’s when I know this is what I’m meant to be doing.

What makes my business special is that I really take the time to personalize the experience for my clients because I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. I don’t just hand them a generic game plan — I explain everything, walk them through their situation, and help them make real changes. I look at each person’s situation and craft a plan that actually makes sense for them. I want my clients to learn as they grow.

I may be in the early stages, but things are taking off fast and I’m already expanding. I started off with taxes and credit repair, but I’’ll soon be rolling out business formation services, business credit assistance, and business funding support. I’ve been adding new services piece by piece to create a one-stop-shop for clients who want to get financially stable and start building real wealth.

Up next, I’ll be launching special credit repair packages and also growing my tax team for the upcoming season. I’m working on a tax training program to help my new tax pros get started the right way, without some of the guesswork I had to go through.

This is just the beginning, but I’m locked in and only going up from here.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, I’d say the three most impactful things in my journey so far have been:

Resilience
Life is going to life — period. And for me, being pushed into entrepreneurship after having a baby and going through unexpected challenges taught me how to keep going even when things feel impossible. Resilience is what kept me from giving up when things didn’t take off right away or when I had to start over.

A Genuine Desire to Help People
My passion has always been rooted in helping others. Whether I’m explaining tax credits, disputing credit errors, or helping someone build business credit, I lead with care and clarity. Clients can feel when you actually want to see them win.

Willingness to Learn (Fast)
Once I committed to this path, I became a sponge. I learned everything I could about taxes, credit, business funding — and I’m still learning every day. Although there was plenty of self-doubt, I didn’t wait to be an “expert” to get started, I learned on the job and I’m continuously improving along the way.

Advice: Don’t wait to feel “ready.” You’ll never feel 100% prepared, and honestly, you don’t need to be. What you need is hustle and motivation, heart, and the courage to keep going even when you’re tired, nervous, or unsure. Learn as you go, lean into your passion, and be okay with failing forward. That’s where the growth is. That’s how you get momentum. And that’s how you build something that actually lasts.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

The most impactful thing my parents did for me was love me unconditionally and showing me the value of hard work. They made sure I understood that nothing in life is handed to you — if you want something, you have to put in the work for it. Watching them show up every day, no matter how tired or stretched thin they were, taught me what real dedication looks like. They also instilled solid values in me — integrity, humility, and the golden rule— which have all shaped how I show up in business and life.

I hope that one day, I’ll be able to retire them and give back just a piece of what they’ve poured into me.
