Meet Dawn VanBuskirk

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dawn VanBuskirk. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dawn below.

Dawn , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

After having a traumatic childhood, and then being shot in 2004 by a man diagnosed with schizophrenia I began pursuing a double masters degree in psychology and also social work. This path led me to a career in child welfare where I worked for 10 years. What I consistently saw with foster care was that there was a lack of mental health therapists that were able to help these children. After obtaining my clinical license I started my business Triple H Ranch LLC and began offering trauma therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and emotional regulation skills while using outdoor farm life! We use horses, goats, chickens, a farm dog! This allows the children to engage in a less restrictive environment and feel more comfortable.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

The exciting part of Triple H Ranch is that we are the only therapy based location that not only accepts medical insurance, but also offers an out of the box approach to therapy. We have been in business for three years and are building a large barn that will offer us to higher two more full-time therapists as well as a couple part-time therapists! This will allow us to grow our services to allow family therapy, couples therapy, and even therapy for veterans with PTSD.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I believe knowledge was key. Knowing what the business with fully entail, what is the thing about the business that sets it apart from others in your local community. Also being knowledgeable about what your business will provide. Knowing what is needed to not only start the business, but to keep it growing. Building a business is not for the faint of heart! It takes persistence and lots of time!

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?

I would continue to grow this business and leave a legacy for my family. I would want ensure that this business continues to serve our surrounding community long after I am gone.
