Meet Dawson Sewell

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dawson Sewell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Dawson, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

This question is one that I absolutely love. Why? For most of my 17 years of life, I have seen myself either as less than, or even not worthy enough for anything. It was more of a defeated mindset before I even began doing anything. It all truly came from childhood trauma that was detrimental to my growth rate. It even caused me to try and take my own life at six years old, later developing into substance abuse. Bullying was a major factor in all of this because I knew I didn’t fit in, or have the right attributes that the popular people were looking for, As I grew older I began searching, searching for something to grasp onto. Something real, that could become my reality. My faith did just that, I have always grown up in church and was never the one to be real “churchy” until I hit around 12 years old. I had finally hit rock bottom and had my taste of the substances stimulation factors and just everything. I gave up, and when I did I found something that has forever changed my life. Jesus. It stopped being a name I just said causally but one I adored. When I placed my perspective on someone higher than myself that I could have walking with me every step of the way with power and authority my confidence exceeded beyond any measure. Now I live every day as if it’s my last and share my faith passionately through my job as a radio DJ which transfers not only to my on-air confidence but my day-to-day life transformation.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

“I’m Dawson Sewell, a radio DJ at 103.9 WDEB, a country music station in Jamestown, TN. I host my shows every Saturday from 11 AM to 6 PM and Sunday from 5 AM to 7:30 AM, sharing a mix of country and gospel hits, local news, and meaningful conversations with my listeners. Radio isn’t just a job for me—it’s a way to connect with people, build relationships, and make a positive impact in the community.

One of my biggest goals is to help grow WDEB, expanding our reach through worldwide connections and sponsorships. I want to see the station thrive and continue to be a strong presence for country music and gospel fans, local businesses, and our listeners. Our hearts at WDEB are dedicated to serving and uplifting the community, and I’m excited to be a part of that mission.

Alongside my work in radio, I’m also a guitar teacher, helping others develop their musical talents and discover the joy of playing. Faith is at the center of everything I do, and I have a strong vision for the future. After college, I plan to step into ministry, using my gifts and platform to make an even greater impact.

If you want to keep up with everything I’m doing or find ways to join in this outreach, connect with me on Facebook at ‘Dawson On Air’. I’d love to share this journey with you!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three most impactful aspects of my life are faith, community, and silence. Each of these qualities has significantly influenced my journey through every season of life. My faith is my foundation; it is the core of my being and who I am. Without my faith, I would have given up long ago. When a person lacks something real to hold onto—something that is greater than themselves—they risk failure.

Community is another essential aspect of life. Personally, without my close circle of genuine friends who can speak the truth and love me, I wouldn’t be able to accomplish anything, nor would I be sitting here writing this interview in a coffee shop.

Silence has been the most challenging lesson for me to learn. In a chaotic world, silence is crucial; without it, distractions can lead you away from what God has purposed for you. Embracing silence not only clarifies your thoughts but also brings healing to areas you thought were lost.

When people ask me what advice I would give someone on a similar journey, I always say: make Jesus your priority and learn to spend time with Him in silence. This will enable you to walk forward with confidence in every step you take.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I am looking for partners to join me in making a positive impact through community/global partnering. Together, we can achieve much more: one can put a thousand to flight, but two can put ten thousand. Being a radio DJ has truly transformed my life, my dreams, and my future.

My goal is to work with WDEB until I graduate, and even after that, I would like to continue doing a few radio shows. I am committed to this journey and want to leave a lasting mark before I go off for ministry. You can help by sponsoring WDEB; support doesn’t have to be limited to my shows. You could purchase ads, fund projects, and help us grow our already global platform.

WDEB aims to strengthen the Jamestown community and keep our listeners informed about everything happening around them. Without us, many would feel abandoned. If you would like to collaborate and join our mission, please contact us at 931-879-8164 or text 931-445-4917. Thank you for your support!
