Meet Day Shaw

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Day Shaw. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Day, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

I grew up in St. Louis, always feeling like I didn’t quite fit in. I was too different for some crowds, too quiet for others. But I found my escape in sketching designs, inspired by the bold styles I saw on television and in magazines. Fashion became my way of imagining a world where I could truly belong.

In high school, I was teased for my unique style. It hurt, but instead of trying to blend in, I started customizing my clothes—adding my own touch to make them reflect who I was. Later, a part-time job at a thrift store opened my eyes to how clothes carry stories. That’s when I started dreaming of creating something bigger.

It wasn’t easy. Balancing my dreams with life’s challenges tested me in ways I didn’t expect. But my family always reminded me why I started: unity. Drawing from my struggles and the love that grounded me, I created Unity Studios—a clothing brand that celebrates individuality and brings people together.

Through Unity Studios, I found my purpose. It’s more than fashion—it’s about creating a space where everyone feels like they belong.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m Day Shaw, born and raised in the heart of St. Louis, MO. Growing up, I always knew I wanted to create something that brought people together, and that’s how Unity Studios came to life. My clothing brand is all about individuality, creativity, and connection—using fashion to bridge gaps and promote unity.

Right now, I’m the moving parts of the business. I design the pieces, market the brand, strategize the next moves, and even handle shipping. It’s a lot to juggle, but the most exciting part is creating something that someone will love forever. Seeing my designs out in the world, making people feel confident and connected, is what keeps me going.

Unity Studios is more than just streetwear—it’s a movement. Every piece features bold art and meaningful messages, designed to inspire and bring people together. We’ve got a ton of new streetwear on the way, filled with fresh designs and powerful stories, and I’m always looking to take things further.

I’m excited to collaborate on projects that align with our mission of unity. If you’re interested, let’s connect—because unity isn’t just the message of my brand; it’s the way I live my life.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, the three qualities that were most impactful in my journey were resilience, creativity, and self-discipline. Each of these played a key role in shaping both me and Unity Studios into what they are today.
1. Resilience
There were plenty of moments when things didn’t go as planned—designs didn’t hit the way I envisioned, or challenges felt too big to overcome. But resilience kept me going. I learned that setbacks aren’t failures; they’re lessons. For anyone early in their journey, embrace the tough moments and use them to grow. Build resilience by setting small, challenging goals for yourself and learning to bounce back stronger every time you fall.
2. Creativity
Creativity wasn’t just about designing clothes—it was about thinking differently in every part of the business, from how to market with a limited budget to how to tell a story through my designs. To develop creativity, don’t be afraid to explore new ideas or draw inspiration from unexpected places. Try new hobbies, observe the world around you, and always stay curious.
3. Self-Discipline
Running a business means being responsible for everything, and without self-discipline, it’s easy to lose focus. Late nights, tight deadlines, and big goals require showing up even when you don’t feel like it. My advice? Start small. Build routines that keep you on track, and hold yourself accountable to your goals. Celebrate small wins—they’ll push you to keep going.

For anyone starting out, focus on developing these qualities. Learn from your experiences, stay open to growth, and trust that every step—no matter how small—is moving you forward.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Yes, I’m always looking to collaborate with creative, passionate individuals or brands that align with Unity Studios’ mission of promoting unity and self-expression through fashion. I’m especially interested in working with designers, artists, photographers, and anyone with bold ideas for storytelling through clothing and streetwear.

If you’re interested in collaborating, I’d love to hear from you! You can connect with me through email or social media. Let’s create something impactful together—because Unity Studios is about more than fashion; it’s about building connections and making a difference.
