Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to DAYNA. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi DAYNA, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
Being yourself can be easy if you let it. You simply just wake up, thank God, and do you. Looking around the room can either be a distraction or an inspiration. One thing about myself is I lean into my authenticity, without being intimidated. There’s a lot of individuals that will self project when they see something different. I’ve heard a lot of things over the years that have forced me to lean more into who I truly am. She’s too this, or she’s too that has to be completely “La la la” blocked out if you want to truly live for yourself, because trust me I “Didn’t Notice.” After all, who wants to be a copycat? 274.6 lbs of greatness can be “Heavy” when you enter a room & it can still be loving, it can still be gentle, it can still be soft. Know that others will attempt to change who you are, but being solid while on my own individual journey is a conscious effort that I pour into myself daily. Making decisions that will put me in a better position is attributed to my mindset, and surrounding myself with individuals who truly care about me is important. Know that one person’s situation can be yours tomorrow, as God is in control. I give everyone respect until I see a pattern that isn’t reciprocated of mine, and at that point..I completely disengage, however this isn’t the only time I disengage. Sometimes I do it for me, or because I feel like that was what I’ve been asked to do. A true “Best Friend” is yourself, you can always depend on you. This keeps my energy clear & heart free from any unnecessary baggage that I don’t have the willingness to carry.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am an independent artist, songwriter & overall creative individual. I’ve been writing music since a child and have learned to live life while still pouring into myself. We all know that struggles will come, but they’re only there to show you things about yourself — what you can accomplish while under pressure, while facing hardships, while in different emotional states, character development at its finest. I’ve been featured in music over the years, as well as have written original pieces myself. My music can be found on platforms such as Apple Music, SoundCloud, Spotify, and YouTube. At this present moment, I’m in a position to continue working while I’m working. With anything I do, my goal is to be genuine, no matter what role I’m playing. Only time will tell what comes next for you. I pride myself on allowing myself the freedom to accept individuals as they are, and appreciate anyone who takes the time to want to connect & create with me.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Being diligent, advocating for myself, and having the self-esteem to truly love me are the three things that I keep close. I feel that having internal goals that no one knows about are healthy. There’s no one checking your time frames, your progress, your wins or losses — this is for you. Being diligent in my approach to my artistry has kept me invested. Knowing that different opportunities will come, some may align and some may not, but at least you are consciously focused on your own goals, keeping your true desires in mind. Advocating for myself has been consistent throughout my life. Know now, that people will try to play you, it’s a part of life. The one thing you can guarantee is, you will learn from each experience that you have. Now, I didn’t say that there were some lessons that had to repeat themselves, but this is okay, we’re human. If you can advocate for yourself, then you can advocate for others. Sometimes, there may be someone who needs you to advocate for them, and in that moment it’s not about what you want to do, it’s about what you have to do. Drinking my water & minding my business is a form of advocacy in my opinion; everything that you do for yourself and even others doesn’t have to be loud. Having the self-esteem & confidence to truly love me at any stage in my life is a blessing, it’s never been a “Distant Lover” for me. As far as I see it, loving myself has to be carried with me throughout life to make it through.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m open to collaborate with other artists who are focused on their own individual goals. Artists that are genuinely invested in themselves & can appreciate my style of artistry. I’m open to various genres of music, and can be reached at: [email protected].
