Meet Dazarae Mathews

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dazarae Mathews a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Dazarae with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

I get my work ethic from my mom. Growing up, I watched her manage a job, support us with school and after-school activities, and take on every responsibility without any outside help. She never made excuses, and her dedication taught me to do the same. Now, as I balance my own job, cosmetology school, acting classes at Baron Brown in Los Angeles, and support my kids with their schoolwork and activities, I carry her example with me. Pursuing my acting career is challenging, but my mom’s influence drives me to put in the work and build my legacy in the entertainment industry.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m an actress building my legacy in the entertainment industry, a journey that’s so special to me because it’s about more than just landing roles—it’s about showing my kids what it means to follow your dreams with passion and resilience. Every role I take on is a step toward that dream, and it’s even more meaningful because my kids love watching my films with me, witnessing my dedication to the craft firsthand.

At the heart of everything I do is my faith in Jesus, which keeps me grounded and guides me through each challenge. Balancing motherhood, acting, and the ups and downs of life isn’t easy, but my walk with Him reminds me that I’m never doing it alone. With each decision and every move I make, I know my kids are watching and learning, seeing what it looks like to trust in faith and work hard. This journey is my calling, and I’m grateful every day to be building a legacy for my family and to make an impact in the industry that aligns with my values and dreams.

I am thrilled to share that in 2025, I’ll be part of an upcoming TV series called Percy Masterson with WATZ Productions. This role is an incredible opportunity for me to step outside my comfort zone, challenging me to push my own boundaries and explore new dimensions of my craft. Although I’m a mom 24/7, this character allows me to transform into someone entirely different, bringing a unique intensity and excitement to my work. This project is another step in building my legacy, allowing me to bring depth and authenticity to the screen in a way that’s different from what I live every day.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, the three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are resilience, adaptability, and a dedication to growth. These have shaped not only my career but also my life. Resilience has helped me to rise after setbacks and keep moving forward. Adaptability has taught me to embrace change and find strength in new challenges. And my dedication to growth has inspired me to continually improve, always seeking ways to be better for myself and my children.

For young girls and boys, especially those who have experienced abuse, I want you to know: first, it’s okay to seek therapy. Healing is a journey, and there’s strength in asking for support. Second, every day, look in the mirror and tell yourself, “What happened to me is not my fault.” Your story is powerful, and as you heal, learn to love yourself and date yourself. Trust that Jesus has a unique journey prepared for you, one that includes greatness and a testimony that only you can share.

Write down your short-term and long-term goals. Invest in your career, holding onto a clear vision with only a Plan A—like Steve Harvey says, focus on your dream as if it’s the only path forward. Remember that Jesus gave you a vision that others may not understand because it was given to you, not to them. Be cautious about letting others project their fears onto you; their limitations aren’t yours. Finally, embrace being comfortable with discomfort. Growth happens in those uncomfortable moments, and through resilience, adaptability, and dedication, you’ll find your way to success and purpose.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

When I feel overwhelmed, I turn to practices that ground me spiritually and mentally. I find peace in studying the Bible, where I can reflect on God’s wisdom and promises. Praying is a big part of my routine; it’s my way of sharing my burdens with Jesus, knowing I’m never carrying them alone. Fasting, too, helps me center myself, allowing me to focus on God’s guidance over life’s noise.

Sometimes, I need to take a break from everything and everyone, creating space to sit in solitude and listen for Jesus’ voice. In these moments, I find clarity, strength, and a renewed sense of purpose.

For anyone feeling overwhelmed, I’d recommend carving out time for these practices—especially solitude. Take a step back, breathe, and connect with God on a deeper level. Let the stillness help you refocus and remind you that He’s guiding every step.
