Meet Dealvia Hurd

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dealvia Hurd. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi DeAlvia, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience stems from my identity as a Black woman, raised to persevere and embody strength not only for myself but also as a beacon for other women like me. I draw deeply from the legacy of my foremothers and my heritage, who were responsible, nurturing, and unwavering in their guidance. They instilled in me the importance of fighting for who I am and pursuing the things I want to achieve. From a young age, I was often described as tenacious, and I’ve embraced that quality throughout my life. When faced with challenges, I’ve learned to adapt—either by finding new paths or remaining persistent until I achieve the desired outcome. This mindset has been instrumental in shaping my journey and purpose.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

My name is DeAlvia, but online I’m known as Dee Monét. I am a Dallas-based lifestyle, fashion, and beauty content creator, originally born and raised in Fort Worth, TX. My journey into content creation began with a love for exploring new places, discovering unique foods, and trying innovative products. Sharing these experiences with friends eventually led to their encouragement to pursue content creation more seriously.

Initially, my work centered around showcasing products and places, but I soon realized I had something more valuable to offer: my voice. Part of my purpose is stepping into my own spotlight while empowering others to do the same. My online and offline presence is rooted in resilience, creativity, self-awareness, compassion, and authenticity. Through my content, I aim to inspire connection and help others find confidence in their own stories.

What makes my work special is the quality of my content, the freedom of expression and creativity I bring to each project, and my ability to connect with others through vulnerability and shared experiences—topics that many creators often overlook. My current content series, From Shy to Shine, is a deeply personal journey of learning to become my highest self—the person I’ve always aspired to be—while dismantling preconceived notions of what social anxiety looks like.

Through this series, I aim to spark conversations about mental health behind the scenes of being a creator in the online space. While many creators focus on imposter syndrome, I strive to inspire others to not only recognize their challenges but also to showcase their growth and resilience. My hope is that viewers will feel empowered to join me in overcoming obstacles and building confidence, creating a space where we can all grow and thrive together.

In 2025, I’m focusing on expanding my horizons both personally and professionally. This includes learning new hobbies, possibly incorporating travel to explore different cultures, and continuing to create meaningful content that resonates with my audience. I also aspire to be a resource and advocate for aspiring creators, particularly those from underrepresented communities.

I want people to know that my brand is rooted in purpose—empowering individuals to embrace their authentic selves, take up space, and shine unapologetically.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, three qualities and skills have been most impactful in my journey: consistency, self-awareness, and flexibility.

Consistency has been a game changer—it’s not about being perfect, but about showing up, even when it’s hard. Knowing myself has been equally important because it’s helped me figure out who I’m creating for. Before picking a niche or following trends, I had to ask myself, ‘Who am I? Who am I showing up for?’ It’s so easy to get caught up in what everyone else is doing online, but your voice matters most when it’s authentic. Flexibility is another big one because things in the creator space are always changing. You have to be okay with adapting and trying new things when something isn’t working.

For anyone just starting, my biggest piece of advice is to really get to know yourself. Ask yourself what you like, love, and even dislike about yourself, because how you see yourself will show up on camera. If you’re overly critical, it’ll make it harder to enjoy what you create. Also, don’t be afraid to fail. Honestly, creating content is like a diary of growth and self-reflection. If something doesn’t work, it’s not the end of the world—take the lesson, tweak it, and keep going. Lastly, post that thing you’ve been sitting on! Yes, you know what thing I’m talking about. I know it feels scary or cringe, but that’s often the content that connects the most. For me, that moment was me starting my From Shy to Shine series about having social anxiety disorder.. whew, I never wanted to post that moment, but it’s a huge part of who I am. Post it, engage with your audience, and let it live. Don’t overthink it or replay it—just let it bloom.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

When I feel overwhelmed, it’s often tied to being overstimulated, especially as someone who’s neurodivergent like myself. For me, knowing myself is everything. I try to take a step back, give myself grace to feel my emotions and reflect: Why am I feeling like this? I give myself the space to isolate, think, and just breathe for a bit. It helps me reset and figure out my next steps.

I usually ask myself questions like:
• Do I have too much on my plate?
• Can I ask for help?
• Can this be handled later or broken down into smaller tasks?
• Am I struggling to ask for what I need?
• Am I trying to control every outcome?

On the flip side, sometimes I need to talk it out with family or friends. Letting them know I’m overwhelmed gives them the chance to support me, offer a different perspective, or just be a safe space for me to unload.

Everyone’s approach is different, but sitting with yourself and asking those deeper questions really helps. Don’t avoid the root of the problem—it’s usually where the clarity lies. That said, finding a balance between listening to your inner voice and leaning on your support system can make all the difference when things feel like too much.
